Just curious, what did Sampson run 40 in?

No official word, but 4.46 to 4.49 range per 24/7:

Sampson did not run the 40 at the Combine to give himself extra time to train after his late-season hamstring injury, which limited him in the CFP loss at Ohio State in December. He did run on Tuesday, hitting the 4.46- to 4.49-second range on his two attempts, per sources.

The important question is what is he doing in the 4th Q against a top 10 team when the passing game isn't working? That's all NFL teams need to know.
I promise you the NFL has zero regard for the CFP. If his size, speed, and running style match an offensive scheme, a team will draft him. He set the Tennessee single season record for rushing yards and touchdowns in the SEC. That matters more than ruining his playing career for an opening round playoff game.

Huh? I never brought up the CFP where he only played a couple of snaps.

Another possibility is that the 4.3 number was bogus, which is the case for the overwhelming majority of HS recruits.
Ding ding ding we have a winner … always love how all the high school 4.2s world record holders suddenly slowdown after being in a world class training program for a few years

No.
Just look at his tape from freshman year and then this year. He’s breaking tackles as a Jr, but he also got ran down more frequently

He’s 30 lbs bigger than when he came to UT. He’s 5’11”. That’s not going to equate to MORE speed. Just more durability and power.

He ran 10.66 100 meter in HS. No way he reaches that now.

Erriyon Knighton is a world class sprinter. He was also a 4 star WR before he eventually broke the 200 meter world record for amateurs. Do you think he would have gotten faster had he added more muscle to increase his durability for college football?

So yeah Sampson absolutely was a 4.3 -4.4 guy that is now a mid 4.4 guy.

ON THE FLIPS SIDE
JAMES PEARCE.
was 6’6” 210 lbs out of Charlotte. Absolutely did not run 4.47 as a SR at Chamebrs HS.

Shows up at the NFL COMBINE 3 years later
And 35 lbs heavier and runs a 4.47.

You can’t just assume some will get faster or slower because they went through strength and conditioning at the same college. Everybody is different.
