my thoughts. 1. I'll leave the criticism of UT's game to somebody else. I'm simply incredibly proud of this team. 2. To everyone who doubted and ridiculed Memphis, I'm not laughing with you, I'm laughing at you. In as hostile an environment as a team will face in the NCAA tournament, the Tigers were simply tougher than A&M. 3. You won't see a better night of basketball. 4 teams laying it all on the line. 4. ESPN has already mentioned it, so I'll comment. Tonight's game was almost an exact replay of the loss Coach Pearl's mentor, Tom Davis, suffered to UNLV in the '87 West regional final in Seattle.

it doesn't feel like I'll get any sleep tonight.

I'm so proud of what this team accomplished, and I feel a little bit spoiled that I expected more from them, but this loss really hurts.

All my Sooner and Cowboy friends out here were tellin me how sorry they were to see the Vols go down. Almost all of em were saying Vols BB is for real, and a programs thats gonna be in the mix as long as CBP is there. I'm very pround of our young men, they gave a very good team all they wanted.

I too am really proud and impressed with the Vols play overall this season. They played a hell of a game against an overall better team and had a last second shot to win the game. Nothing to hang their heads about at all.

Nobody's ignoring. We're just looking for a diversion to ease the pain.

you gotta admit, that dig at Cal was pretty funny.

Feel the same way, very proud of the team and the job Pearl has done in only 2 years and playing 3 freshmen. Amazing.

I'll give it a shot at analysis, if not criticism. The team came out excited, determined, and on fire, a great testament to both the game plan and motivation of the players and coaching staff. They played well, and on top of that, everything they did was right, including getting OSU's bigs in foul trouble.

Sometime during halftime we lost that mojo. Sometime during halftime, OSU refocused on their game plan of using their advantage in the post and taking care of the ball. The run by OSU from .1 seconds left in the first half to the 16 minute time out in the second put them back in the ballgame, and it was a slugfest from then on, which is not a good recipe for an undermanned, run-and-gun team.

Pearl's gameplan this year is not good for holding leads; it is good for giving a team with a personel disadvantage its best chance to win. It did that. I also expect that to change with the development of Chism, Childress, and Crews, and the eventual addition of a true center to give us more options in a half-court set when we are forced to play that type of game.

Props go to Matta for getting his young team to right the ship during halftime; the same to Pearl for taking a team to the verge of the Elite Eight that, based on its roster, had no business being there. I am really looking forward to what Bruce can do with another recruiting class and another year of development for the guys we have.

Good job Cotton!

1. Vols had a great year. I am a proud fan today.
2. Memphis deserved all the doubt and ridicule they got. The bad news for them is their conference is only getting worse. It is only a matter of time before the NCAA bumps them down from mid-major to minor conference and Memphis will play in for a 8-9 seed as a conference champ. They are playing the role of the Boise St. football equivalent this year though coming in as a 2 seed. That shouldn't happen - an easy road to the sweet sixteen shouldn't come from a doormat conference. Period. (All that said, I will be pulling for Memphis on Saturday)
3. Incredible night. Too bad media influences have the games starting so late and lasting so long. Starting a game on Thursday night at 10:30 eastern is ridiculous.
4. If you and ESPN say so.

Having slept on that loss instead of spending very much time on VN as usual after a game... I'm still extremely disappointed.

Yet, still very proud of UT's season. The future is still very bright and I can't wait to see this team next yar and in the future. If, however, they were going to lose in the Sweet Sixteen, I wish they could've found a better way instead of doing it after having a 20 point lead. :cray:

What about if you just plain hate the Tigers and their fans? By the way, great post Hat. I too am very proud to be a vol fan.

1. with the spring game coming up next week i find it very hard to believe football can be ignored for that long.

2. it was a tough loss and an elite 8 appearance would have been awesome. but it didn't happen. when a team blows a 20 point lead they dont deserve to win the game. it sucks, but its true. thinking about what could have been doesn't get you anywhere.

3. nobdoy is ignoring the hard work that ut has put into this basketball season. the majority of this board is appreciative of the way things went this season and are looking forward to the bright outlook we have next year.

There are plenty of teams I detest. However, I don't let that get in the way of giving them credit when it's due.

Hat at halftime did you think we had so much momentum we would take this game or did you feel more nervous because we were up?

This season was not a success. WE lost. I was very excited throughout most of this season, but last night just took the air right out of my sail. WE had that game, but we let them off the hook. I will be the first-ever BP critic on here: why did your team play so poorly the second have, how can you fix the countless mistakes(turnovers, fouls, bad-looks, etc) your team made last night, and why did your team give up last night?
