We'd be saying "this sucks, but these are proven head coaches, so we just have to stay the course." One of the dangers of hiring someone who has zero experience doing the job you've hired them to do.

What would everyone be saying if Gruden, Leach, etc would have came as coach and we still where in the same boat as now?
Leach wouldnt have given the reigns to JG. He would've promised a big-time 2018 or 19 QB that he would start as a true freshman and probably break some passing records. That's what Leach does.

Gruden would've instantly attracted some really big fish, including better QBs.

Pruitt hasnt been able to attract top talent yet. He's getting there but his name doesn't get the same recognition that Leach or Gruden get.

Gruden would have us looking just like his Raiders look right now. Les would have been ran out of town. No coach could come and fix this loser mindset overnight. It's gonna take a while.

I think we have a divided house on our hands. Half those guys are Pruitt's guys and a fraction of them see they're being recruited over and losing playing time to freshmen. Too many of the loafers are still there though to just sit them all. You can't field a team. Pruitt is really in a no win situation here and i only think this season is going to get more trying for him. If this guy survives this deal he may be our guy. Not sure he does. The deck seems to be stacked against him.

In this exact situation I would want them gone.

I have seen zero improvement. I have seen NOTHING that tells me “this guy is it” or even “this guy could be it.”

Zero motivation
Team unprepared
Big lack of discipline
Indecision (coach)
Team regression not progression

If the coach was someone with a proven head coaching track record I could see people thinking “it takes time”.......this guy doesn’t have that and hasn’t shown anything except the ability to recruit.

Leach just nose bombed 60+ points

Volnation would be just as full of Fire him now threads with Leach.
You do understand there's a slight difference between being 3-1 with your lone loss being by four points, and being 1-3 and having just lost by 31, along with having lost previously to Georgia State?

I'm not one of those who would hire Leach above coaches such as Freeze or Kiffin, or the one we should really go after in Meyer; but it's a long leap to suggest we'd be just as bad off right now if we had hired him twenty-one months ago.

This is roughly akin to asking what it would be like if you bought a Challenger and it wouldn't outrun your neighbor's Civic. It's possible, but about as likely as a formation of pigs flying over Neyland tomorrow at noon.

I agree on its going to take time. I feel with a qb only we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Hard to think we are there but we are. Praying the kid from GA won’t charge his mind.

The point is he’d be fired by the fans at the first sign of adversity continuing the trend

Any coach that's proven gets longer. Fans have been hearing give whatever coach time for a decade. It's old and worn out. If pruitt finish's with less than 4 wins he needs to go. Period.

There’s earning it from the young guys and entitlement from the old guard.

Ok

But how long should it take a good coach to have his team motivated

How long before he can get his team to “not look lost”

Seriously, I understand there are problems, but shouldn’t we see improvement and see things getting at least somewhat smoother?

I live 7 miles from the hell hole of the south. Having to know I will hear “roll tide” or “hows your boys doing” one more time makes me want to jump off a cliff. But, I do feel if we had the 2nd worse qb in the SEC we would be 3-1 and not feeling this bad.

Have you not seen the improvement in the LBs?
The OL?
RBs?

It’s there but it’s gonna take time.

I won't speak to Gruden because that was never happening. With Leach I would still be frustrated, but I would feel confident that if given time that he would right the ship. He's proven himself as a head coach.

I’ve seen regression in the D line
I’ve seen regression in the secondary
I’ve seen regression and then coaching indecision in the QB
I haven’t seen improvement in special teams

I have seen improvement in the O line......however if the coaches hadn’t been pulling them in and out so much the first couple of games......that could have been achieved sooner.

I have NOT seen improvement in the running game at all. One game vs and FCS team is not improvement.

The freshman LB has improved. He is a good player, shouldn’t he week rover week? I haven’t seen it much elsewhere in the lb core. Sure the addition Saturday may help but that is nothing “from” the coaches.

Yes, because look how successfully we're getting coaches fired every week! Dooley only lasted two games, and Jones only lasted four games.

Sometimes I wonder if this forum really is proof of life on other planets.
