CBJ bolts for say Houston or Purdue, due to the fact limited home run hires are out there, do you turn the keys over to CBS.... (Coach Bob Shoop)?

He's going to be a head coach soon and while this is JMHO, he never had his coaches in place to teach or run his D. We saw this with CPF concerning Coach Clawson. Not to mention the fact CPF was constantly in his ear the entire time as he was at the end of Randy Sanders tenure here. CRS has shown he's a very good OC, as did CDC as a head coach and his offenses were high octane.

I think Shoop would be a viable option for a choice of head coach and with his coaches in place our defense would be well at the top in the SEC. JMHO, and wanting to know how others felt.

If you feel the need to flame do so but if you have a rebuttle I'll welcome it with an open mind.

Maybe next season as interim coach after we start 1-2 and Butch gets canned we can try him out. And if every single coach we want turns us down and he's not doing a bad job, then we can think about hiring him. Don't make LSU's mistake though and settle quickly. Take our time and make lots of guys say no.

But off he bolts right now, look for us to hire PJ Fleck, D.J. Durkin, Craig Bohl, or Mike Macintyre

LSU didn't settle.
LSU banked on Fisher and lost it happens.
They didn't want a war with Tx they knew they'd lose regardless so they got someone both sides could be happy with.

If that happens neither will be here next season.

Ideally I would agree with you if this was after Fulmer was fired type situation. We have experimented enough to put our bet on another unproven guy.
Can you imagine if Shoop fails how people in AD would be under pressure for hiring a guy with no previous record and probably the worst defense in history of UT in the year of hiring ?

To be honest, I think Shoop will be a good HC somewhere. Not sure we are in place to take that bet.

Fleck (maybe, and good coach) Durkin NO, Bohl NO, Mike Macintyre (has promise).

But my thoughts with Shoop is he's coached in the SEC and knows the rigors but you've given me more to think about. Thanks!!!! Good post!

buTch isn't going to run away and take less $$$ to go anywhere.

If he did then I could live with Shoop as HC with a 2 or 3 year contract to prove himself to hire really good coaches that can also recruit against the best of them and build us a 2 or 3 deep that can compete against anyone.

Any new coaching contracts need to be results oriented.

VFL...GBO!!!

Rumors are running wild and while I agree with you, CBJ will take his check. While I'm not in the fire him pool yet, I do have serious questions that as a donor since 1996 I'd like them answered but that isn't going to happen.

I'm sure the rest feels as I do, I'm embarrassed and humiliated at how my University is being viewed. Let's just hope we get the ship back on the right course!

It may come back to bite LSU hiring Ogeron, but like Booger McFarland (He Played at LSU) said on SEC nation, he was glad they hired a coach that wanted to be at LSU because he loves the place and its not necessarily about the money. That is what I would love to see as Head coach at Tennessee. Then go out and spend the big money on the coaches to run the 3 phases of the game. The best money could buy! Who? IDK I'd take any VFL with a decent head on their shoulder. They would always be sure to do what is right by Tennessee and that would be most important to me as a true fan of Tennessee!

Shoop didn't all of the sudden forget how to be a DC, did he???

I can't bring myself to believe that the pitiful D that we saw had more to do with injuries, lack of developed depth and meddling than Shoops lack of "know how".

Development falls in Shoops lap, but he is in year one installing a new defense. There will be natural growing pains. AND the fact that DT is the most important part of the D and we have ONE that can play in the SEC.

Shoop will be a great HC one day. He may need to learn to "dumb" his system down a bit in order for the players to pick it up quicker. Who knows?

I think one day coach Robert Gillespie will make a great coach, he's a great position coach, a great recruiter, I think guys want to play for him. Not anytime soon of course but he'll work his way up eventually
