Im just curious as to why even though he has the highest winning % among long term coaches....has a national championship under his belt...and has coached several NFL players....Fulmer's name has NEVER to my knowledge ever been thrown into the mix for NFL head coaching jobs. I wonder why...............hmmmmmmmm

immaterial. He has made his living being a very strong recruiter and playing a particular style of football. NFL wants coaches for their innovativeness, motivation or some other unique ability. Phil's real strength is recruiting, which translates to nothing at the NFL level.

His name got throw around 1999/2000ish when Carolina Panthers were looking for a coach I think. But that is about it.

I've hardly ever heard Fulmer's name mentioned among the list of great coaches like Paterno, Carroll, Spurrier, or Meyer either.

Hey Papavol....that being said, it sounds as though you DONT believe Phil is innovative nor motivational. If thats true....as it seems to be since NFL teams want that and no NFL teams wants Fulmer....then why is he the head coach of a major program since he is not innovative nor a motivator?

Too many college coaches have failed in the NFL that teams probably look elsewhere when hiring a coach. I think Spurrier opened some eyes to NFL general managers on this. Nick Satan wasn't so hot in Miami either.

looks like Donald Pleasance to me.....

I agree with PapaVol. I'll bet if the notion was broached at some point after the NC, CPF quickly killed the idea.

I'd like to see the success rate of coaching going to the NFL from college versus coaches going from the NFL to college. I'm sure it'd be interesting.

With that being said, not having NFL opportunities means absolutely nothing in judging a coach from college. It's a completely different game and if you gave a list of the top 10 coaches in college football history, how many do you think would be great in the NFL or even sniffed a head coaching position in the NFL?

He is the least innovative coach I can think of, period. Motivational, maybe for some players, but I don't think he knows his personnel well enough to motivate on an individual level.

I don't think he should any longer be coaching at a program expected to compete on a national level. I don't think I have made any bones about that. He did a phenomenal job when getting the talent in the door was king. Now that parity is creeping into the game and actual player development and game coaching matter more, he's out of his league in the SEC.

I'm pretty sure everybody gets the idea that you don't like Fulmer and want him fired.
