Of course he can.
no f'ing way he should turn it down. so many of these kids will never have a good professional career. if I had a chance to make and extra 1.5m that I could invest at 21 years old and set up the rest of my post basketball life it wouldn't even be a question. automatic.

No it’s a wrap! We need a better rim protector with Felix gone and I love JP but the defense is just not where we need it, and I’m hearing Rick has already found that person who should be committing soon!

Rick Barnes wants to give the fans the Final four you want, so he’s on a mission!
He was a sorry defender. For a coach who preaches defense over all else, I’m surprised Rick played JP at all the way he gave up baskets.

Love Estrella. I thought he could be 15pts and 8-10 rebounds guy this next season. Angry Estrella is the best. Gonna miss him. He can’t turn down a 1.5 million dollar increase.
Who's crazy enough to give him that kind of scratch? A 1.5m raise? Where did that come from? That's insane.

Whose crazy enough to give him that kind of scratch? A 1.5m raise? Where did that come from? I honestly don't know.

$2MM a year for Nico sounded incredibly outlandish when it was initially rumored, and then it turned out that was nowhere near the top of the market for a quarterback. Right now, there are enough people with enough money interested in fielding competitive teams that role players (Estrella is good, but I doubt he'll ever be an All-American are commanding big pay days. Factor in some teams with less blue blood cachet needing to overpay to land top talent (is Dybantsa getting $7MM if his jersey doesn't say BYU, and could Ament wearing Carolina Blue be more in the $3MM range?) and you get this bizarre dynamic where most sixth men at P5 schools are clearing $1MM next year.

Everyone likes to think/hope that this is untenable, but what's $30MM for a roster spread amongst three mega boosters who individually clear that in a month?

Why bother recruiting HS kids anymore.? You spend time and money teaching them how to play and they just transfer. A terrible waste of money. Just buy players from other teams that are already developed. It worked for Michigan and UConn. Barnes is old school but he needs to realize no one is going to stay. The days of recruiting projects or 3 stars and hoping to develop them is over.

You have to fill the back end of the roster somehow

Do players even enroll in school and attend class anymore? I almost swallowed my tongue the other night when during the Michigan press conference the mediator said, "We will now hear from the student athletes now".

So now all 5 starters are gone. The entire women's team is gone. Never seen anything like this.
Hopefully some of you are now seeing the effect of NIL and transfer portal. Fans will be starting to dwindle even more as long as this crap is allowed to keep going.
