The overall regular season stats are nice but just look at what Dobbs did in conference this year in comparison to other QBs in the SEC.

Passing Stats
151.47 QB Rating (1st in the SEC)
17 TD passes (1st in the SEC)
9 INTs (3rd in the SEC)
62.8% completion percentage (3rd in the SEC)
8.6 yards per pass attempt (1st in the SEC)
1,968 yards passing (2nd in the SEC)
248.3 passing yards per game (2nd in the SEC)

- And he did all this on 28.9 pass attempts per game (5th in the SEC). Incredible effiency on such few pass attempts.

Rushing Stats
101 rush attempts (3rd among SEC QBs)
549 rushing yards (3rd among SEC QBs)
5.44 yards per attempt (4th among SEC QBs)
6 rushing TDs (4th among SEC QBs)
68.6 rushing yards per game (4th among SEC QBs)

- Interestingly Dobbs rated better as a passer than runner this season. While he was #1 in many of the passing categories, he was no better than 3rd or 4th in rushing this year. Nick Fitzgerald, Jalen Hurts, and in some cases Trevor Knight were more effective on the ground.

Total Offense
24 total TDs (1st in the SEC)
2,535 total yards (1st in the SEC)
7.64 yards per play (1st among SEC QBs)
316.9 yards per game (1st in the SEC)

- In terms of overall production, Dobbs was CLEARLY the best QB in the SEC this year.

Lol, still struggling to find something to cling to D4H? I mean you've only been wrong on pretty much everything you predicted.

Outside of the SCAR game he has been a field general out there this year. Who would have ever thought we'd beat Fla and UGA but loose to SCAR and Vandy. This season has been surreal.

And somehow Butch Jones managed to go 4-4 in conference with the best QB in the SEC.

Remember in the pre-season the big question on whether Dobbs could be a good enough passer for Tennessee to win a SEC championship?

Welp that was wrong. Dobbs has the best season of any QB in the SEC and yet we lose more games in conference.

I was right on one thing.

Butch Jones is not the answer. I said it in the pre-season. If this team failed to meet expectations in 2016 it would be because of Butch Jones.

And as I feared he exposed himself as an inferior coach incapable of leading a talented roster to meet it's potential.

Being 13th for longest pass, tied for 1st with most Ints ,1st for fumbles, isn't that some important stats too? We all know his quick 1 yard WR screens is responsible for 60% of his passing stats

The guy really is a baller. And has heart for miles. Regardless of how the season ended I'm glad Josh chose to wear the orange and I did enjoy watching him play. His frustration in the USCjr and Vandy games was obvious. And that speaks well to his competitive nature and character also.

Very proud of Josh so many doubted him on this board and he had a very great year. Big things ahead for this tremendous young man..he is the epitome of a scholar athlete.

Dobbs is in my top 5 vol qb. Without a rb with an attitude and a competent D, this year could have been one to remember.

Not making excuses, but I wonder if the team didn't grasp Shoop's defense this year? I remember how bad we looked running the Clawfense...history has shown that he knew what he was doing.

yeah i was kind of let down on 3rd down and dobbs passes a 1 yarder. did it on 4th down too. he had plenty of time on a lot of those throws.

I'm thinking it could have even been assistants not grasping Shoops defense. Too many times Jumper or Kirkland were repositioning linebackers and DB's.

Grasping the defense is only half the equation. Tennessee had major breakdowns in just plain old fundamental football. Tackling a runner in open space. Gap integrity. Poor pass coverage. Blown assignments. Inability to get off the field on 3rd and long.

I'm cutting Debord some slack. Offense put up points. These last 4 games have been embarrassing to watch on defense.

Maybe it goes back to recruiting. Doug Mathews commented this morning that we have a walk on middle linebacker. Where are the linebackers we recruited?

Do these kids come out of high school with everything they need to know about tackling, and just learn Shoop's playbook, or was something lacking in the off season?

I don't think you can heal a defense this bad by September. That is taking into consideration the attrition we are about to experience.

I also heard on the Vandy game, that they simplified it...what they did was sell out to stop the run and even our all conference CB got burned several times.

Yes, I noticed that. I was at the game. Shocked to see Cam Sutton a step slow. Maybe he's not quite healed.

Anyway, this thread is about Dobbs. He's a warrior with a heart as big as Texas. May not be the best passer, but he makes up for that 1000 times more by balling out when the game is on the line. Gonna miss that.

To be fair the SEC (East particularly) had atrocious QB play. The next best QB was Stephen Johnson. For a couple years really Dobbs has been the only QB I'd build a team around.

That said, you have to give Dobbs credit. He's always thrown interceptions, but 26 touchdowns was a big jump. He was throwing it further down the field, and doing his usual thing on the ground. His QB rating was far improved. Solid year. Maybe not an ideal year like D4H predicted, but still very good.

He actually led the conference in 20+ yard TD passes.

And as the numbers I posted show, he was #1 in yards per pass attempt in the SEC play.

So you can keep pretending it was just screen passes. The numbers say he was the best QB at throwing down the field this season. PERIOD.
