Josh Dobbs and the Heisman

When the Vols lost Saturday that's one of the things that went bye bye, heisman consideration. Dobbs is a great talent don't misunderstand me but I doubt if he even gets an invite to watch someone else get it now.

One game doesnt usually exclude a guy from the Heisman. Manziel won it despite losing 3 games. If Dobbs actually continues playing like he has and hits his projected stats, then a Heisman invitation shoukd absolutely be given. Will he win it? Absolutely not. But get an invite? Very possible.

With the onslaught of social media, the Heisman has essentially turned into a popularity award. The other trophies/awards have much more meaning... Maxwell, O'Brien, Thorpe, etc awards.

Heisman is king of the mountain and the winner usually, not always, wins some of the other trophies along with it

Iirc, Lamar Jackson is on pace for 3500+ yds passing, 1200+ yds rushing and 60 tds.

If Josh hits all the numbers you posted and he has a huge game vs Alabama then I think he could get into the discussion. But right now he's not being mentioned among the top 5 candidates and the remainder of our schedule is gonna hurt him.

That said, if he gets to 3,400 total yards and 40 tds, he will have had a great season and will have a good chance be the first team all-sec qb and that'd be great.

He is already being considered. This was shown on FS1 network during their Thursday night game after we beat Georgia.

Yep. Gotta add that Peyton not only lost to a defensive player, he lost to one that did not have any NCAA records, conference record, nor even a school record. Peyton had tons of all three.

If Peyton Manning couldn't win the heisTman then nobody at UT ever will.

heisTman trophy voters hate UT.

After Peyton got screwed it became a total garbage award to me and always will be garbage.

heisTman sucks!

It would be great for Dobbs to be considered for it although I believe the way we lost the aTm game with an ugly INT has hurt his chances.

Still a very long season and plenty of time for the other favorites to fall short and new ones to step up. Dobbs needs to worry about winning the East to keep his name in the conversation.

Would be amazing if he got an invite to NY and said, no thanks i have important plans that night but thanks anyway. Oh, and BTW #%*% that award!

Through the years, I have noticed severe prejudice against U.T. when it comes to Heisman Trophies.
(1) Johnny Majors lost it to Paul Horning who played for a Notre Dame team that had a losing record.
(2) Heath Shuler lost the Heisman to Charlie Ward who wasn't good enough to even play in the NFL at all.
(3) For decades, people said the Heisman was for offensive players but Carl Pickens never even got considered but Woodson ended up winning because all of a sudden a defensive player could be considered.
(4) Manning vs. Woodson.

If you will listen to some of the t.v. broadcasters like Gary Danielson, you will notice that they seldom root for us, but when our opposition scores, they get really excited.
You will notice that the way we fall or rise in the polls indicates that we are not being treated fairly.
We need to win despite all of this and force them to respect us.

He needs to have an epic Deshaun Watson/Vince Young like performance against Bama this Saturday and we need to win.

If he does that he gets in the conversation. Then it's all about winning out, putting up pretty numbers, and hoping we get Bama again to make an even bigger statement and beat them twice.

If he does that, he'll at the very least get invited to New York and most likely win the award.

Josh still has a chance. He just needs to dominate this Saturday when the whole country is watching.

Josh had 3 TO's himself last week. He is very inconsistent. May not be the best QB in SEC with Kelly around.

In the talk only if he can beat Bama convincingly 2 times.

Turning ball over will hurt him. But maybe only 1 time beating Bama would be enough provided A&M also beats Bama and stays unbeaten and Dobbs could beat an unbeaten #2 or 3 ranked Aggies in SEC title rematch.

If UT wins out, that means Dobbs continues to play well and racks up more stats (except pics!!)

A 11-1 UT program will be ranked 6th or less in the nation and every year the Heisman search starts at the #1 team and then works back looking for the best 'stories.'

A finally resurgent UT program led by a guy with miles of high light footage, lots of TDs, AND a future astronaut who helps out sick kids and represents pretty much everything the Heisman stands for can't be overlooked. Throw in the Peyton screw job of yesteryear and this is media solid gold.

Lot of 'if's' in that scenario but definitely plausible and certainly deserved if they are true to the spirit of the award. That being said, it will probably go to the qb of the highest ranked team with the most passing yards.....

You are giving these people too much credit. Jameis Winston and Cam Newton won Heismans. Character means jack squat. And as for Peyton getting screwed, they didn't care then and they sure don't care now.

Dobbs' character gives the Heisman committee an opportunity to show character counts with their votes for Dobbs or they can throw it under the bus as a legitimate criterion with a vote for anyone else. It will be interesting to see the results!
