Jones better than Pruitt From Athlon ask the coaches

He didn't bench Kamara. Good God! Hurd was the starting RB when Kamara got here

Your characterization of Hurd is pathetic. On his worst day, he's tougher than you on your best day
Hurd was good. But I think the point is that Kamara has turned out to be one of the best all purpose running backs in the NFL. And Butch wasn’t a good enough coach to figure out how to use him. It isn’t debatable that Kamara turned out to be the better running back than Hurd.

Pruitt may work out and he may not, but it’s been worth it to me just so I don’t have to watch Butch’s godforsaken, sideways running, finesse flag football offense. I think this year we may actually see an offensive line that can get a push for the first time in 7 or 8 years.
From the hornblower's first game I was like wtf is this offense and how does any sane person think it will work in the SEC. It was criminal that he was hired as a Vol head coach.

It was bad enough that he ran the read option with a QB that never ran his first season but you could sort of force yourself to justify it. His last year here he was still doing it!

To his credit, he found a guy that could run around and turn a broken play into a punt return and make it work, but it was apparent in 2017 that we just flat couldn’t block very well without Dobbs back there to bail out the offense. It used to drive me crazy when we’d get in the gun inside the 3 yard line and go Zone Read for no gain... Reverse for 2 yards... pop pass for a loss of 1.

Yes, Kamara is outstanding. But using your basis of NFL production, last season was Kamara's worst as a pro after the Saints traded Ingram and made AK the feature back. He didn't sit on the bench as many want to recall, but had a great 2 seasons at UT alongside Hurd for 1.5 of those.

Yes, Butch did misuse them. See the OU game from '15.

1st of all, this was a sh&tty spot. The ball should've been at the 1/2 yard line, at worst. 2nd, on 3rd down, you don't bring your "small" back in. Use the big guy (Hurd)! 3rd, go for it on 4th down! It's early in the game and if you don't make it, they have the ball at the 1!.

I was sitting in Section S that night, and shook my head. When UT crumbled in the 4th, I hated it, but I wasn't shocked.

There is no defending a loss to GA ST. Cant really foul a coach for saying it, especially for recruiting purposes.

Or BYU
At home no less
There is a lot from CJP year 2 that is being used against the Vols in recruiting.
It is a testament to the staff that the commitments for 2021 are as good as they are.
I am of the opinion that the top high school players teams must have to win are already spending their NFL checks in their heads. Winning helps of coarse but the NFL path is what matters most.

Certainly Kamara is the better all around back. The post I was responding to was suggesting that Kamara was benched in favor of Hurd and that just wasn't the case
