Unfortunately I just caught the last 10 minutes or so. Seemed like a stand up guy. Said Chaney and Kiffin had the ba!!s to stick with him and not be swayed by people wanting a change. VFL, if you ask me, as was Wes Brown. Does anyone know what happened to Wes? It seems like he was from down around Huntsville or Gadsden.

Thanks for starting a thread on this. I only got to hear the intro. By listening to Swain's introduction, Crompton was a true Vol. He wanted his whole life to play for UT. Sad that he only got a short opportunity to have time on the field, sad that he wasn't coached up prior to his senior year like he should have been, and also sad how he was bashed by a lot of fans.

Thanks to Crompton for sticking with the Big Orange. Never turn your back on a guy that gave his all for TN - VFL in my book.

If Jon Crompton would have gone and seen a sports psychologist...gotten the right meds to keep the football demonic voices out of his head....his career and our football team would have been really great.

It was all mental with that kid...physical tools were always there.

It's a really good interview and he talks about committing to Sanders and playing for Cutcliffe, Clawson(best part imo) and Kiffin/Chaney. Kind of makes it easy to understand why the D is the way it is this year.

Yep...unfortunately. I have heard from a UDub (Washington) alum that they wanted Wilcox really bad and threw $$$ at him. I suppose Hart/Dooley could not really give Wilcox a raise after we went 5-7, even if Dooley wanted him to stay.

Thanks for that expert analysis. I'm just glad he listened to his coaches and not the moronic fans who, at the time, were calling for his head on a platter.

I'll admit I was a crompton basher. One of the only players I have bashed. Still regret it. Happy for him that he had a good senior year. VFL. Hope he is doing well.

There are so many rumors about all those assistants, I don't think we'll ever know. Crompton had 4 different OC's in 5 years...This D has all new coaches at every position AND they are or tried to switch to the 3-4. Lathers has had Chavis, M. Kiffin, Wilcox and Sunseri, multiply it by all of the other players on D and it explains why the D looks like the Clawson O.

Both HC's made bad hires at the wrong time and it looks like it's gonna cost 'em both.

I saw him at the BAMA game. Really cool guy hung out with us for around 15 minutes. He says he's in between teams at the moment.

that was nice to listen to.
kind of sad to sit back and see how it all ended for CPF that year and how terrible Cromp was treated. kid never behaved badly, went to class, graduated on time and many of US fans, myself included, bashed that kid.
he is a bigger man than me had i went through what that kid did i sure as he$$ wouldnt be pulling for the orange and white.

I really respect him on how he handled his up and down career. I bashed him at times, but I'm really glad he finished his senior year strong.

I agree with that. But much of it was switching OC's and systems every year. That had to wreck the kids future. I don't think Peyton could have thrived in that same scenario. This is why it's absolutely imperative that we get the HC situation Right....and Right now! No more waiting to see if Dooley will pan out. Budget Rental experiment over. Time to pay up, in order for this program to move up.

I enjoyed the interview on the podcast. It had to be hard for him to talk about the death threats and stuff. I never realized he and his whole family got packages and bomb threats as well.

Maybe the dumbest post I've read on here - no exaggeration.

Don't blame Crompton - look to his coaches.

If Fulmer & Clawson displayed the intestinal fortitude to stick with JC throught the '08 season, we may have seen that same improvement a year earlier.

It's obvious Kiffin & Chaney did not work magic - just showed Crompton that they had his back and that he wasn't going to be benched - no matter what.

Crompton relaxed and started playing like he practiced beginning with the '09 UGA beatdown.

I would've much preferred that breakthrough a year earlier at UGA in 2008 to watching Nick Stephens completing 13 of 30 passes.

I have known Jon and his family very well since he was 5! Huge Clemson fan up until high school! Gave me He!! for wearing the wrong kind of orange!Jon would have been a major league baseball player if he had went in that direction! Great talent and great family!

Always thought that fulmer worried more about saving his job that year than coaching or winning. We were 7-6 the next year. If fulmer would have stuck with Crompton might have saved his job and that young man's carreer. Although I hate Kiffin for what he done to us I don't know that Crompton would ever have "gotten it" under Fulmer.

IMO laMe kiffScum is given far too much credit for his time at Tennessee and he totally destroyed our player roster.

At USC he walked in and basically had a NFL team left to him by Pete Carrol and USC is still 1 of the easiest schools to recruit and still laMe is LAME and still can't even win enough to even sniff a National Championship game with 1 of the best QB's in the country.

Kicking Field Goals to try and beat Bama when you know your kicker is hurt so badly that he can't get his foot above knee level was just plain DUMB especially when you've been moving the ball against them so keep moving the ball and eiither getting a much closer kick or a TD or have Bama backed way up and let the D try and get the ball back.

Bama was so lucky that game and I sure wish we would have Won because then alaBummer wouldn't even have gotten a shot at a National Championship game.

Thanks to LAME we were also put under NCAA investigations and CDD had to deal with that crap too on top of everything else.

VFL...GBO!!!

You can make a lot of arguments for getting rid of Dooley, but program stability isn't one of them.

Thanks, I was just going off of Swain's introduction to the interview. I haven't had a chance to listen to it, but I'm about to thanks to another poster who copied in the link.

Even if some of my initial details weren't 100% accurate (e.g. Clemson vs UT), the guy hung-in to the program during a lot of turmoil. Please tell him that there are those of us within VN, as well as the general fan base, who have a tremendous amount of appreciation for his dedication to the Big Orange.

He has been hanging around Lawrenceburg, because he has family from here.
