John Stockton Vs. Larry Bird

Big Jazz fan and I can't go with Stockton on this one. As much as it pains me, I have to take Magic over Stockton, too. That being said, my all-time team goes:

Wilt
Barkley
Bird
Jordan
Stockton

Though Magic is a better player, Stockton was the better table-setter and that's what you need from PG on an all-time team.

And he did it with fewer weapons.

Stat o' the day: 13.5 apg has been done 6 times in NBA history. It's been done by Stockton 5 times (Isiah did the other one). Stockton is the only guy to do 14.0 apg and he did it twice (14.5 and 14.2).

And yet Magic has a higher career assist avg.

I'll take 5 NBA titles over zero.

There's a difference between playing for the Lakers and the Jazz. Lakers without Magic have like 14 titles. The Jazz without Stockton have 0 title appearances. Lakers would win titles with Stockton instead of Magic. Not saying they win 5, but they win.

Hypothetical games are worthless.

Because he played like 12 years and Stockton played like 19. If you compare their prime 10 years it's Stockton and it's not even close.

Magic average 6.9 assists after having not played for 5 years and going through HIV treatment.

Johnson grabbed far more rebounds, got to the FT line at a much higher rate, had a higher FT %, a higher FG %, more points.

These comparision threads are dumb, there is no argument to be made for Stockton being on the same level as Bird, none whatsoever.

Thought it was Bird/Stockton?

Guess it's Magic/Stockton, you take Magic all day.

Stockton ws a great player, he and Malone fed off of each other for years with the pick and roll, Magic was a game-changer, Stockton needs to be compared to Jason Kidd, another great player in his own right but not Magic level great.
