John Kelly has been outperforming formal Vol Hurd

I love JK's game. The only thing I'm going to question is his durability in this offense going forward. Hopefully we'll have a good rotation of RBs and he doesn't have to take hits before he gets to the line of scrimmage.

I loved how the announcers ripped Hurd during the game saying a player should NEVER quit on his teammates during the season no matter what. One of them went on to say if he was the decision maker on an NFL team, that action would eliminate him being looked into!

I am glad we have Kelly. He is incredibly fun to watch!

Yes... Competition was a little different.

Va Tech is ranked 40th in run defense. SC, Kentucky and TAM are all 80 or worse. 40 is less than 80.

He could have rushed against the same defenses man. He quit, move along. Quit

Kelly is a beast. Kind of built like Eric Berry, maybe a couple inches shorter, but has long arms that help keep him off the ground ala Berry...and he runs with some of the best balance and effort I've ever seen. Just will not go down....oh and he is the fastest back on the team no doubt, Kamara is as quick as ive ever seen in the first 20 yards, and great vision (they both do) but Kelly has the breakaway speed past that. Great 1-2 combo. We will see both in the NFL in the near future

Yeah, which is why Jones stuck with him for so long. Hard to bench a guy who had so much success. Reason why I blame Hurd and not Jones. You can't expect the hc to know that your star tb is half assing it. Unprecedented and will never be duplicated. Only Saban would handle this season better.

Why is benching the only alternative? False dichotomy much?
How about more evenly distributing the reps? How about some more creative ways to get Hurd in the passing game?
Why is it always one extreme (all the carries) or the next (benching). This is the limited thinking that seems to infect Vol fans.

Just for kicks, Hurd at h-back, Kamara in slot and Kelly at RB. It doesn't take a coaching guru to makend coordinators wet their pants.

That's getting benched if you give carries away. We can never know what Butch could have done, he quit.

Personally, I like the quickness of Kelly. I have noticed it is rare for the first defender to get him to the ground. Also, I think he is better suited for Butch's offensive system. I am glad he is a Vol!
