I was out a bar last night here in Jacksonville, FL and saw him walk in and of course I had to go shake his hand (he had that huge '98 NC ring on) and introduce myself as a huge fan of his and UT football and he was polite and we must have talked for 30 minutes about anything and everything. My opinion of him is even higher than what it was before, considering he could have just brushed me off and went about his business. I thought that said a lot for the type of guy he is and it just showed a lot of class in my opinion.

I met him my frsh yr in hs, when he was playin in the bball state tourney at MTSU. he was a sr, and i knew he was goin to TN and didn't care that I got his autograph, nice guy. he wasn't bad in bball. it helped that they had ron slay as well, i played ball w/ him one summer. he's actually a nice guy as well. what he does during the game is all show. he was nvr cocky when we played that one summer.

he's actually going to be hosting a Super Bowl party tomorrow at a local bar here in town that he invited me and a couple of my friends to go to as well, i was just really impressed with how cordial he was and i'm pretty sure he owns a bar here as well and he invited us to go to that one on Tuesday night and we asked him if he would be there but he said he wouldn't because he would be in Hawaii getting ready for the Pro Bowl. I just found it really unusual I was having a conversation with somebody that will be playing in the Pro Bowl this year

Thats pretty cool! I had always heard he was a class act. In 2001 he was the heart and soul of that team. Awesome!

I was on the field for the final minutes of the SEC championship that year. I've never seen anything quite like Big John walking off the field looking so dejected. That guy is seriously massive. I don't think you can truly appreciate how big his frame is until you stand next to him. I guess even big guys get sad though, because he looked like he was about to cry. It was heartwrenching.

Thats awesome. He was so dominant his junior year and could have easily gone pro...but he came back to win. He gave his all for Tennessee. He's one of my all-time fav's...plus it was cool when they would play "big bad john!" on the jumbotron.

no kidding, we asked him how much he weighed and he said he was at 330lbs. he didn't look like he weighed that much because it was all muscle, i felt like a midget at 5'10'' standing next to him

Great story, but are you sure it was a 98 NC ring, because Henderson never recieved a NC ring because Prop 48's weren't issued NC rings. He stated that one of the reasons he came back for his Sr. year was so he could try to win a ring of his own, but ring or no ring it would definetly be a thrill to meet the man.

it was definitely awesome to meet him, you just don't expect people like him to hang out at the same places that regular people like me go to. i was pretty surprised how nobody really recognized who he was but then again Jax really isn't a football town even though they obviously have an NFL team here, nobody really pulls for the Jags

I have several friends who are pro players. I met John through one of them and maybe it was because I wasnt just average joe fan coming up to talk to him, but he was very nice to me as well. We ended up at a bar in Nashville and he didnt let me buy a single drink. When the night was over, he called a cab, and handed the cab guy some cash to get me home even though I wasnt drunk. Real class act and I hope he always does well except against the Titans.
