This was posted on Sporting news by a writer regarding Phil on the hot seat.

Phil Fulmer, Tennessee: Huge month of games for Fulmer, whose team usually -- key word: usually -- plays well when its coach is feeling heat. There are too many restless souls in Big Orange Country to deny Fulmer needs to win.

Looming in '09: Jon Gruden, Tampa Bay Bucs.

Gruden is 3-0 and is making $4 million per year. You should never read anything written my that writer again.

Sometimes coaches leave the NFL for more control. For instance, Bobby Petrino and Nick Saban. If I'm not mistaken John Gruden was in the mix for the Norte Dame job before Charlie Weiss got it.

he's been in the NFL for so long that he has got to be comfortable with the control he has. as far as saban and petrino are concerned, how long were they actually in the NFL combined? saban for a year and a half while petrino last a couple weeks of the season. they might have wanted the control back, but gruden has had continued success for many years in the NFL

Petrino and Saban used to be college HCs and wanted out of the NFL to go back to one....John Gruden has won a SB and has a good program, unlike Saban or Petrino

If you are looking for a wish list then lets go after Tony Dungy.

Hey I need Gruden to stay in Tampa that is my pro Team. But if he did come to Tennessee wow what a HARD WORKING COACH WE WOULD HAVE.

Didn't he buy some land in Sevierville like at like 5 different times last year?? Guess he needs a second job.

I checked up on Gruden about a week ago to see if it was likely, a sb winning coach is something anyone would love to have. Wikipedia said that he made around 4.5 million a year and that he was the highest paid professional sports coach in the nation. Tampa>Knoxville ntm.

That is not why Petrino and Saban left the NFL. They left because they were fighting their way out of the cellar and saw a better opportunity come along in the college ranks.

Even Al Davis said so.

Exactly...Thats why we need him, He's a winner at the highest level. I'm still a fan of Chris Peterson though.

Outside of private/family issues I can see no reason why JG would consider leaving the Buccs to come to Knoxville. It could be he's tired of Pro ball, could be he's ready for a new challege, or scenery. I don't think he'd take the job but he's my 1st choice if he'd take it. Seeing him at press conferences in that Orange/White polo sneering and smiling would be awesome.:)

Everyone who is saying Gruden wouldn't come to TN may very well be correct, but no one should assume that they know what his thought process would be if TN goes after him. If Bama can pay Saban 4 mil, then there is no reason TN couldn't pay similar money for a high profile coach like Gruden. If there isn't much difference in the money, then maybe he would be happier at TN than in the NFL, no one really knows for sure.
