John Currie to Washington State

Analysis | How does Tennessee’s suspension of John Currie affect Mike Leach and WSU’s athletic-director search? | The Seattle Times

This article really does a good job of connecting the dots. I really think Currie was trying to do the best with what he had to work with. The populist wave only exacerbated a very big problem. The well was poisoned long before John Currie ever stepped in the door. Phil Fulmer was part of what created the monster years ago and it will soon be compounded. The only thing Mike Leach wanted was an AD and it looks like he found one. Currie is going to walk away from this smelling like a rose in every state but TN. Good luck ladies and gents...

If Currie looks like a rose anywhere, then they know absolutely nothing. You don’t hire a man that 98% of everyone doesn’t want, and possibly have to pay him something even though he will never even step foot on campus. Then start actually interviewing good coaches, but not actually be able to sign them. This makes him look even more incompetent than he was before hiring Schiano. I wouldn’t let this moron run a car wash, much less an athletic department. As far as the very few that supported Schiano, let’s see how that works out waiting for him to get interviewed and hired by another school.

That article does connect some of the dots...but I do know two things to be fact:

Currie was told to interview Leach by a group of prominent boosters.

Haslam did not approve of Leach.

Currie may have seen writing on the wall and used the trip as an opportunity to seek a new job. But I am not so sure. Either way, Haslam is still pulling strings.

Well that's sabotage imo .

No sabotage by Fulmer, as Lowe confirmed by both sides (UT & NC St.), that Fulmer and Currie we’re both in Raleigh together, Currie interviewing, and Fulmer supporting (“perception is reality” however, and only time will allow restoration of order)
Edit; just wanted to add, that Lowe went into detail yesterday on 104.5 with regard to Fulmer & rumors of sabotage

No it’s a horrible article that repeats a national dialog on Fulmer that he has refuted in person face to face with Rece Davis reported today. Fulmer sabotaged nothing. And the speculation about Leach interviewing Currie is absurd. Wash St already had succession plans in place as they fully expect to lose Leach.

Currie might wind up there but only because it’s the only place that would touch him. And he’d be screwed from a money standpoint as the athletics dept has been in a 10M + budget shortfall the last two years. They aren’t improving anything. They are just trying to keep the lights on.

John Currie was a great fundraiser and builder who was caught in a sports and political battle, both of which he was ill equipped to fight. If WSU or another University has their on the field stuff on track, Currie would be an outstanding hire.

Currie did not know about the Fraud that would ultimately weaken Haslam enough to be overruled. In the end, he realized and tried to switch sides. But it was too late. He also, my guess, relied on Haslam's football expertise for the coaching search the most. In the end, he realized that Haslam was clueless and tried to branch out. But the move to fire him had already begun before he went to WSU, and the WSU thing was too odd too late.

Since the move to replace him predates the WSU trip, Currie's recruitment of other could not have been "undermined" by Fulmer because he was already on the way out when he talked to Leach. He told Leach because Currie was already gone.

This does nothing to “connect any dots Steve”.
Currie botched this search from the jump (Good Riddance). The thing is, while Currie was trying to hire the pirate, most Vols wanted him gone regardless of who our next HFC is. His fate was sealed in my opinion upon his return from the Bahamas.
Order is being restored as I write this, and what a day it is!

Anyone saying Currie went 'rogue' by going to Washington is clueless. Currie was directed to re-interview Leach by a significant group of boosters, which included Charlie Ergen. Haslam did not want Leach. Then, after a deal was tentatively reached, Currie is canned. Bruce Feldman, who is extremely close to Leach, reports that Fulmer personally told Leach not to come to UT as it would not work out for him. Then, Fulmer named AD. And yet, you ppl think Haslam has lost control lolololol

Is that why it's being reported a Kansas State booster's plane flew him to LA?

Leach is not a candidate for the Tennessee coach.

I believe it when I hear Phil say it. If Leach is not a candidate and Steele and Tee are, Phil should be fired. No reason for that kind of stupidity. The only proven winner amongst the three is Leach.

Incorrect. His contract has a mitigation clause just like Butch's did. Hope he got the job.

Tennessee AD John Currie can earn $1.5M bonus in 5-year deal

UT may terminate the MOU or employment agreement at any time for cause as determined in the “reasonable and good faith of the University.”
If UT terminates the MOU or employment agreement without cause, the university will pay Currie liquidated damages in the amount of $100,000 times the number of months remaining in the term with partial months prorated. The separation payment would be paid in equal monthly installments over Currie’s remaining term.

Washington - That is about far enough for me. Siberia would have been better. With the 3 hour time difference, we hopefully will never have to hear from him again.

Don't wish him ill will he alone made the decision to be little jimmie's butt boy.

I can guarantee you that The boosters did not want Leach. Fulmer was not in cahoots with Haslam. That's 100 percent completely false. Currie tried to save his job by acting alone. Fulmer was sided with Thorton/Ergen and Currie sealed his fate starting with the Schiano hire and the fact the He and Haslam refused to have talks with JOHN GRUDEN which the other booster we're trying to work out. Not saying it would happen, but they were trying to get him to the table and Schiano deal screwed it up.

Makes a lot of sense. He gets AS I job because he knew he was fired at TN then him and and Leach's camp leak TO Feldman they TN/Fulmer has sabotaged him. Currie KNEW he was fired and was trying to save face. Ask yourselves why he took not a TN plane but a place from a KSU booster friend to "go see Leach". Ironic that his old boss from KSU is now at WSU?

Spot on. This is exactly what I've heard too. It will all eventually come out. The House of Haslam temporarily lost control on Thursday evening, but now the slimes are back in charge thanks to Judas Brutus assassinating the Leach deal. We're still the Cleveland Browns of the SEC. Thanks for nothing, Clappy.

The worst part of this entire ordeal is that we could have had Mike Leach. Now we will end up with Les Miles, merely because he is more desperate and therefore obedient.

Do you really think boosters could've made Leach play Jumper over Bituli? Watching Leach eradicate the good ole
boy network would've been enthralling to watch unfold.

If true we know: 1. Currie's services are in demand.

2. UT athletic program has reached terminal velocity in its death spiral. The question is not who will coach but whether there will be a team to coach.
