Joel Wyatt, a 2026 prospect, has announced his commitment to Tennessee.

The Tennessee Volunteers have been looking to add more players to the 2026 recruiting class, and they did just that on Monday. Joel Wyatt, a 2026 ATH, has announced his commitment to the Volunteers.

Wyatt is rated as a four-star prospect, the 46th-best player in the country, the fifth-best ATH, and the second-best player in the state of Tennessee, according to composite rankings. Wyatt took official visits to both Tennessee and Vanderbilt this summer, and ultimately, it was the Volunteers who came out on top. LSU also earned an unofficial visit from LSU before he visited Knoxville.

Great get.

So, does an "athlete" go to a position of his greatest strength or a position of team greatest need? I assume the all encompassing answer is "It depends". Just curious - off season question that I've not heard asked/answered before. Thoughts anyone? Examples?

I’d say it varies in every case. Some guys may insist on playing a particular position. If a guy is open to either, you may send him to your greatest need. I doubt you’d send the next Eric Berry at safety to wide receiver to be the next Gerald Jones even if you badly needed receivers, though.

And of course if a guy is a tremendous talent, you might let him play multiple positions.

It just means the recruiting service doesn't feel confident penciling him in at one position.

He's being recruited here as a DB

Key is, they find a spot early and stay there. Most "athletes" that bounce around trying to find the best spot, typically don't pan out.

Coaches will give him a shot of where he wants to play (DB).
But he said he will play where the team needs him to play and where the coaches think he fits in best to help the team (TBD).

Or this could be a chicken or the egg situation tho? Does bouncing around cause players not to settle in a do well? Or is a player just not that good, therefore they have to bounce around to try to find some kind of spot? I'm not sure. But this would be a good forumm question ... Who were the best Tennessee players that started out in one position and ended up in another. I'm sure there are many, but I think of Jason Witten and Jonathan Wade.

Huge. Second highest rated player in this class. Not many 5*, but we have a solid group of top 300 recruits. Anyone know how many we can add to this class as it stands?

Keep building that 2026 class - for the first time in a really long time, I feel like we are catching up in the talent category to the guys that are currently winning championships.
