Joe Milton showing improvement

Didn’t get to really watch the game, but went back and watched the highlights. Joe looked a lot more comfortable and confident with the snaps he got. Albeit Ball State, hopefully this is the new and improved Joe Milton that Huepel has had a full year to work with. Nice to see because we may really need him.

Setting all above yea and nay support of lack there of aside,,,, yes he looked better. BUT I have as my first and most dominant memory of the Milton time, a sure over the middle wide open pass for a TD that was "sailed way over the head of the receiver, much like last year...

Any comment about the TD passes he made? No? Figured as much because you know how it is.

TE shoulda have caught that without question. Sailed right through the diamond.

Wrong!! I did and loved his "good". Just have a hard time getting passed his not so good. Did not like his smiling on the sideline after that overthrow.

I saw a pass that Wilt Chamberlain couldn't have caught. Maybe I am wrong but I think that bugger boo is still in there somewhere.

Well…, I guess certain folks are so perfect they can't make mistakes, so feel free to perpetually hate on those of us who do make mistakes. You know, I'm going to offer you someone special to hammer upon because he made MANY mistakes, the doggone Vol-god himself. Have fun that even a Vol-god isn't perfect, and gasp, can make error after error. However, for me, I'll just remember he was a great QB, and continue to believe that despite his haters, Milton III will be a heil of a lot better and not the total loss his haters insist he is.

2. Peyton Manning is one of the 10 worst quarterbacks in the NFL (and the Broncos are undefeated)

I am not a hater of Milton or for that matter very many people. I think he may be the starter by the end of the year. His physical ability alone could make this happen. Now if he gets his "mind right"(as the warden told Luke) and harnesses that cannon some more look out. But I saw what I saw. In this case it stuck out the most for me. Right, he did well otherwise. Looking forward to seeing him just completely runover someone. To do this I thinks it will have to go against his grain. Being the biggest strongest and maybe fastest kid around growing up, he may have been "a gentle giant" as many big guys are. (no need in hurting the little fellow syndrome)

I thought Milton played well, the one issue was the rocket that was incomplete. If he can learn touch, he would be hard to unseat, well, as long as he runs like he did Thursday night.

Be sure to pick your butt up after it falls off. Clearly, you missed the point of my post, but that's OK, some day your aim might get better.

I get your point. You think Milton has turned it around. The mistakes he made his first 2 years of college ball are behind him. Everyone should be singing his praises.

My point is let's slow down a bit and see what he does when it matters. He was under no pressure Saturday and he didn't throw any passes that required any touch.

For the record, please go back to the 2:45 mark and let's avoid another round of revisionist history. Watch ALL the replays and you will find that he did make the right read, he needed the height to clear a leaping number 10 (maybe 40) at the line, and if you freeze the play you will see another receiver who had a 1 foot vertical jump and on the replay from the field side replay the ball is clearly level with his hands immediately after he missed it. Continue on to the endzone replay and it confirms the lack of elevation by the receiver, and the ball clearly within inches of his fingers. On that replay compare the elevation of the referenced defender to our receivers. Any characterization that the ball sailed WAY OVER THE HEAD is simply not true. Just like the RAN OUT OF BOUNDS myth last year.

A softer pass would have been better for sure, but it was not a bad pass and was DEFINITELY catchable with normal elevation by a 6'5" TE. Use stop action and it is easy to see that it was catchable, and if the TE continued his route and not turned around so early it would have been even easier, and the ball barely cleared the endline and bounced in front of and bounced off the bottom of the goalpost. So it was not a missile over his head.

Someone from the other side please review the replays and tell me where I have not spoken the truth. And this was his LONE incomplete pass.

On top of that on the next play he made a tremendous read and pass on the penalty play down there, threw a perfect ball to the receiver at the sideline in the endzone, who made an equally impressive catch but was not allowed to come down in the endzone to a great defensive effort by two of their guys. Gravity alone and that would have been a highlight play, maybe on Sports Center. Validate that analysis as well. As it was the receiver's foot was within a foot of the ground.

edited to add to screenshots. Notice lack of elevation and proximity of the ball to his hands.

I thought that pass was catchable.
I see nobody mentioning those Hooker passes that were off.
Joe looks improved to my eyes. I'm sure we'll be seeing him this season one way or the other

No, you don't get my point. I was posting a dig at people practically ignore anything positive about Milton, and persistently browbeat on his 2021 mistakes. My other point afterwards, was like the rest of us, he's not perfect but capable of learning. The recent game indicates that. But NOOOO, folks want to continue to condemn him for his 2021 performance. I call such fans, Vols-player haters. They like nothing better than self-fulfilling prophesies for the pleasure of saying, "See, see? I told you so."

Milton had a lot of positive comments on his most recent performance. Your thread is useless "better fan" nonsense.

Any reasonable person can see there has been a lot of improvement compared to last year. Will he be able to hold up under pressure from a better opponent? Hard to say but give him his due for what we saw in the first game. As Vol fans, we should all be rooting for him to succeed. He has worked hard.
