Isn't JN using a gay slur similar to a black guy using the N word?

Good chance it's worse. Kobe vs ref, fans don't care that much maybe because they don't align themselves with refs. Noah vs fan=not good for NBA in some fans eyes because they can see this from a fan's viewpoint. Haven't followed NBA in 20 years. Some do get tired of the "entertainment".

Honestly, who cares?

I'm sure a majority on this board have used that term and probably uses it almost daily and not in the sense of the context that would offend a gay person.

Just like Eminem said years ago, it means "punk" or "bit%^" moreso than a slight against a gay man these days.

Not a big deal to me, the Kobe deal either.

I don't. To me, it means what it has always meant. No point in trying to marginalize it or change the meaning. Keep the fines coming.

You think 50k is approproiate then? 100k?

It is absurd, I think it was obvious from both instances that what they meant was not what would be considered a gay slur.

I understand the NBA has to do something but it shouldn't be a top story.

Look out for more PSA's about gays and all that crap.

I don't know what is appropriate for a fine. Apparently, the powers that be think they know. And, by the size of the fines, it also appears that they think it's offensive, too.

It hasn't always meant that. It's only meant that in recent history. It used to be a derogatory term aimed at the elderly (I believe) and other groups.

Sorry, nb, I guess I meant during my lifetime. I know it's had other meanings going back 5-600 years. In America's 20th century and forward, it's taken on the other meaning and held on as far as I know.

I see no problem with him saying it. I'm sure the "fa..gg..ot" fan said worse.

I wish he would have said he was just thinking of an annoying "bundle of sticks and twigs" when he was caught on camera.

Norm MacDonald said that Noah calling Miami "Hollywood as hell" was evidence that Noah had learned his lesson and found suitable replacements for gay slurs.
