You were arguing earlier that a coach will take a job with less competition if possible. I'm not sure that is true.
I was refuting the idea that coaches are ego-maniacs to the point of searching out the stiffest competition. i.e. wanting to go to UT for the competition versus Clemson where the road to a championship is much easier.
If competing at the highest level weren't a major consideration, there would be pretty much nobody leaving college for the professional ranks. Also, the Big East wouldn't be able to get anyone to come coach basketball in that league now.You missed the point. If you go back and read, I threw out the list to refute the assertion that competition is a deciding factor in coaches taking jobs. You are supporting my argument. Thanks again.
If anyone thinks Sexton is going to say anything about the UT job that wont put pressure on UT they are crazy. This is a good move on his part. All the pressure is now on UT. UT fans will not allow the Clemson job to be broadcast as "better" than UT. If Sexton really is saying this in a public forum and is serious about it then he is an idiot. And trust me, he is not an idiot. He also said that Saban was in no way interested in the bammer job. He said that Saban's goal was a Super bowl. He waxed poetically about how Saban LOVED his job. I put no weight in what he or any other agent says in public. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice

Good luck with that.
Considering how much it meant to him when Larry Brown intentionally got thrown out of a game against the Nets so John could coach the Sixers to victory and rub it in New Jersey management's face, I can assure you John hasn't forgotten that time.I had forgotten that stint, just like I'm sure John has.
OK. Simple. If UT is such a great job and college coaches thrive on playing the best competition, why doesn't Hamilton just set the date for interviews and criteria and wait for them to line up? Who wouldn't want the opportunity to play in a dominant league with the National Champions from the last two seasons - and probably a third in a row this year? What coach worth his salt wouldn't want to measure his craft against the likes of Spurrier, Saban, Richt, and Meyer every season?
Heck - UT should be having to choose between the likes of Stoops, Tressel, and Carroll based on your belief.
But in reality world we're realistically talking about Kelly, Peterson, and Brewster.
Free lesson here.. In buisness you need to ask yourself "Who's kids will eat first? Yours or the other guy?" If word ever got out that he cut his commision to help out his school he would be through, every one of his clients would expect the same.
The guy is doing his job; school ties end at the bank my friend.
