Just had some redneck dude call in and ask the question point blank. Hyams stated that in his opinion, from talking to boosters and other persons over the past few days and weeks. He believes a change will be made.

I think I just came a little.

Hyams is such a UT homer... if is willing to go on air and say it, I firmly believe it.

This feels like the calm before the storm... it's been pretty quiet around here since Sat. night

Yeah, but don't ask him who he wants as a new coach.

"I don't feel comfortable speculating about a new head coach while one is still employed by the University of Tennessee"

-Everyone at The Sports Animal 99.3

Unless they changed their tune today.

Your last sentence makes me think I should merge it into the "How do you think you will finish" thread.

I agree, it annoys me to no end. If you don't speculate on sports talk shows what the hell do you do?

To clarify just a tad... Hyams, when asked, stated that because of conversations with boosters - who stated that fulmer had to beat either georgia or alabama to keep his job - he didn't think fulmer would be back. Its not his opinion or based on any breaking news, rather, conversations over the past couple of weeks.

It's obvious by now that he will not be the head coach at Tenn next year. I just hope that it doesn't turn ugly.

I was hoping there would be a Happy Ending to all of this. :)

Agreed.
I wish they would make announcement, so the fan base can unite behind the outgoing coach for the last four games.

Maybe he's said some things I haven't heard but I've never thought of Hyams as a homer. There are some whose perceptions have become so jaded that anything less than calling for Fulmer's public execution is some sort of de facto homerism.

Hyams stated on the Sports Source back before the GA game he thought Fulmer's odds of coming back were no better than 50/50. Homers don't make that call with 7 games still left on the schedule.

As for the "won't speculate" responses it's so uniform it leads me to believe it's a directive. I won't hold somebody responsible for what they're told from above by an employer. Besides, it's not like they're tricking anybody or being dishonest. I mean, are you saying you have a right to demand speculation from someobdy?

Completely agree. I don't want to dislike Fulmer but if her does drag it out, I might fall that way.

Fulmer could still go 8-5, if he manages to beat SC, Vandy, Ky, and a weak opponent in the Music City Bowl. It's not likely, but not outside the realm of possibility either. I'm sure Fulmer is playing for that, to try and save his skin one last time.

I think he's gone no matter what. Too many people will throw in the towel on next season before it even starts if a change isn't made.

That's a great point. If they would go ahead and make an announcement, that would allow the TN fan base to celebrate CPF instead of having our disdain continue to grow. It would also stop the speculation and most definitely releive some pressure from the team. Fulmer will be fine. He has a boat load of cash coming his way.
