All of a sudden, Hyams is an "objective journalist". After carrying Fulmers water for this many years, he and the Sports Source crew are still ripping the Kiffin hire.
He blindly followed Fulmer down any alley but here comes Kiffin who hasn't even stepped on the grass and he's all of a sudden full of criticism. Maybe he can get Vicki Fulmer to co-host Sports Talk. They can tell us each day how bad Hamilton is.

Kiffin I beg you, don't give these dopes the time of day.

He just really has gotten under my skin as of late. If you want to be the marketing arm for the UT coaching staff, thats fine, it's his call but to afford that to Fulmer for the past ten years just to throw rocks at Kiffin before the guy has walked on the field is really telling.

I would bet that CLK understands the ignore function and will use it with respect to some of these clowns in the local media.

Per Hymens, Kiffin has done nothing to inspire confidence....what a joke....go back to writing for the News-Senseless.....

"Has he gotten a de-committed recruit to recommit? No.
Has he gotten a big name to commit? No.
Are my bowels a little rumbly today? Well....yes.... I guess you could say they are.
Am I hungry for seafood? Well... maybe? John W. is really the expert on seafood........
Do I want to condition today? Well....maybe....I used conditioner on Friday, so maybe it's too soon? I don't know......."

Hyams also didn't even know who the Barkley kid (qb) was when quizzed by a caller on the afternoon show. And if he was the crack analyst he apparently thinks he is, he surely would have that kind of info, especially at this time of the year and considering the coaching change and how recruiting directions for UT might go. He also couldn't answer a caller's hypothetical question about impending coaching changes at a school, and whether an individual not in coaching but apparently going to coach another school could contact athletes during a dead period. In other words whether the NCAA rules would apply to a person who perhaps knew he was going to coach another school and hadn't officially been named as coach or signed a contract. It would seem that Hyams would be familiar with such possibilities. Hyams always uses a lot of, "I don't knows" when questioned by callers on his show. He doesn't seem to always be in the research loop mode, past or present.

I lost all respect for Hyams earlier this season after listening to him run UT into the ground while on Jay Barker's radio show right in the heart of enemy territory...Birmingham...Hyams = Clown!

I think Hyams and Fulmer had a relationship where Fulmer or his staff occasionally gave him inside information he could report and in return Hyams occasionally defended him on his show.

Now he has to start over with a new coaching staff that doesn't know his name. Apparently he had no contacts inside the AD because he was completely out of the loop on the LK hire.

and his rapport with callers is just awful.....Rocky Goode connects with callers better than Hymens....says a lot......

I remember after one game (Wyo.?) somebody called in to Football Finals and suggested that Trooper should come back (as HC)....obviously not gonna happen, but Hymens was so condescending and petulent to a caller who was either young or just uninformed.....instead of humoring him, he responded a couple of times with "To do what?"......everybody knew what the guy was saying (Trooper as HC), but Hymens didn't have to embarrass him....

pretty classless....

Perhaps that explains their slumping ratings and the radio station cutbacks. JH is a horrible jounalist and I have never understood how such a joke as him could become such an authority on anything sports related.

He's only an authority to those who erroneously believe you have to know what you're talking about to be on the radio.

Hyams is one of the most objective ones of the bunch. His main gripe was how the administration handled the Fulmer firing -- and a legitimate argument can made about that, so I don't see anything wrong with him.

You have to understand the culture of the business those guys have to work in. They don't have any choice but to be in bed to some degree with the program, or they won't get the kind of access/inside info that they desire.

I'm not in love with Hyams or anything, but he's fine if you ask me.

That is actually untrue.

Out of all the firings this year I would say UT handled ours the best. We did it early, allowed him to finish out the year so he could have his day and it allowed us to search for a coach before all these other vacancies became available. Hyams will say 10 things negative before he will say 1 thing positive about UT, but he will sing the praise of LSU all day long.

Any sports journalist covering college football that doesn't know who Barkley is should be relegated to covering women's field hockey.

Sports Animal could improve their whole gamut if they required an IQ test to call in and told Chip Cain to leave.

I'm fine with that if that is what he wants to do but if he's gonna carry Fulmers water, he could at least wait on the new coach to step on the field before sniping at him. He's been more critical of Kiffin in two weeks than I've heard him be of Fulmer in ten years.

This is not true. Yes, they may have to develop alternative sources and work a little harder to get the story but objective journalism is what is on the line. Hyams is not objective and has shown this year not to be credible. I've seen him take three different views on the same topic on three different shows. How could anyone judge that to be credible?
