"This week's game against UGA is a 'keep your job' game for CPF. For if they lose, we are out of the race in all reality. Not for the reason of losing to UGA, but no BCS game nor an east championship, is all it will take for teh program to cut their(UT) ties with CPF."

quote from interview on 1010xl Sporting News Radio, J-ville

Alot could still happen to win the east, even if we do lose to UGA. It is not likely to win out and expect all others to lose. I am already tired of hearing how we could still be mathematically eligible.

Three weeks ago Freak & Larkin talked on VolNation Live regarding whether fans would not go to remaining games to keep their seats empty and make a statement to Mike Hamilton (hit them where it hurts $$$$) If we do lose to UGA, you can bet on getting an easy ticket at Neyland the rest of the season, OR maybe not, the truest fans would not let their seat be filled whether they scalp their tix or give them away.....
Does.....UGA loss + empty seats = CPF exit

Hypothetical Question:
Let's say you have season tickets, if we lose Saturday, for you to make a statement to Mike Hamilton would you:
1. not sell your tickets to keep your seat empty at all costs
OR
2. would you scalp them to get some cash back?

Just wondering how many UT fans would risk their investment and not recuperate their initial investment.

GO VOLS!

scalp to get cash back.

I also heard Jimmy Hyams say that even if we went 8-4 Fulmer would be back, that included a loss to UGA. If they went 7-5 they would look at how the losses took place, close, injuries, etc.

So, grain of salt.

That and the fact we probably wouldn't be on tv no more except for bama. That has to hurt somehow.

Tickets people don't want could be put to much better use around Knoxville. To hold and not go is stupid.

Right on. Winter is just around the corner and cardboard makes great kindling.

How about giving them to kids, who would just love the experience because they have yet to become cynical and jaded.

could you help me out here with cynical and jaded? I'm not quite sure what you mean. If you're saying that I need the blind faith and mental acuity of a child to actually expect reversal of our recent fortunes on the gridiron, then I think I agree.

I think he means that they will still go to enjoy the sights and sounds of UT football (like many of us were able to do when we were younger) without thinking about who's on the sidelines. They have plenty of time for that when they get older.

oh, they don't care who wins. So caring who wins and getting upset with habitual losing is cynical and / or jaded. Lombardi was won cynical / jaded fella'.

Please tell me I'm just missing the sarcasm.

There are many kids in Knox who do not have the resources to see UT games on a regular basis. If you don't want to use the tickets you pay for then fine but they could be used in other ways.

I get the point about letting kids take the tickets and I completely agree. I think the entire idea of holding the tickets to make a point is the most absurd I've seen on the site.

If anything? Maybe bring some youthful exuberance into the stadium. Give the players something to feel good about. Honestly? I feel bad for the players... they're kind of like the 12 year old kid stuck in the middle of a nasty divorce. It's not their fault, entirely. As a fan of UT, and of the team, I will go, and cheer, and be a dutifully ignorant fan. Or I am really that pessimistic, because I know whether I go or not... the AD will have it's mind made up, regardless of fan involvement. I just don't want to feel like I'm taking it out on the team. And also? Regardless of how they're doing, I've grown tired of the away team's ability to make more noise (even though there are around 20k of them against about 80k UT fans).

Let me quote Madden, when he was talking about the Giants/Eagles game.
"Giants fans have always understood the game and will make a lot of noise to support their defense on big 3rd downs, regardless of the outcome"

And their defense was doing TERRIBLE up until that game.

This looks like a thread about season tickets being discussed by non-season ticket holders. Brilliant.

I live out of state, am not an alum and only make one to two games per year, but I still give to the VASD and still have season tickets that my friends and family use throughout the year.

So, now that I'm qualified for sure, your comment was the stupidest in this thread by a huge margin. Surely it doesn't take season tickets to discuss a hypothetical scenario involving season tickets. By that reasoning, we're all unqualified to discuss the current staff because we've never been UT coaches mired in mediocrity in 2007.

I drive over 800 miles to see every home game. As a season ticket holder since I graduated I view my tickets as an entertainment expense. The thread starter was asking if ticket holders sell tickets to recoup "an investment". I don't view my tickets as an investment at all. If for some reason I can't make a game, I give them away to someone that can. I think most season ticket holders view their tickets the same way.

And as a season ticket holder I have enjoyed myself immensely at the only two home games this season. And plan to continue the partying this weekend.

What will I do if Tennessee loses to Georgia?

I will fly to Tupelo Mississippi next Friday and drive down to Starkville for the game with the Bulldogs.

I will still do whatever I can to get off work by 3:00 the next week and watch our boys take on the Crimson Tide.

I will drive down 2 hours to Knoxville (if I can get my shift covered in time) to watch our boys take on Spurrier and the 7-1 USC Gamecocks.

I will hopefully go to the Homecoming game, but if I can't get off, my wife will go with someone.

I will again drive two hours and go to the Arkansas Game and watch our boys play the Hogs.

I will drive the two hours one last time this season and watch our boys take on the Commadores.

I will then drive the 5-6 hours to Lexington and watch the Vols take on the Wildcats.

After that, I'll probably end up going to the bowlgame.

It's more than the record that gets me to the games. (I went to every game except Bama in 05)

so do (big) boosters give out of the kindness of their hearts....get something in return....or maybe a little of both?

Here's what the real Vols fans SHOULD do. Go to the game, EVERY game, support the TEAM, support the players. Boo the coaches if you want, but support the kids that play the game. If you aren't able to do that, give the tickets to somebody who will and don't get any next year.

Take Superdave's advice and give me your tickets, please pm me for my mailing address.

If you're not going to support the team then give up your seat!

I hear that. I will GLADLY take tickets to the USCar game. My wife and I will be in town for that game and will see it even if we lose ever game before then.

I am going to homecoming, I am still a vol, I give, I spend while I am there, and I love the game. My view of Phil does not matter on Saturday because even though the game might have past him by he is still a vol and is doing the best he can to win, if the losses come replace him with dignity at the end of the year because after all is said and done he is not on the sideline trying to lose the ball game, he is a vol and wants us to win just as bad as the fans, players, and boosters want us to. It may not be in his ability anymore and if not he will be replaced but for the love of god... Not only on Saturday but 365,24/7 we are all vols, act like you have some class.

it has everything to do with non-season ticket holders wanting to know how you represent our ticketholders. what you don't understand there is a ticket-holding subculture in Vol Nation that represents us non-ticket holders who live out of town. Just as we are non-ticket holders out of town expanding the Vol Nation all over the country. (who fly into knox for three games a year. I spend $2,400 as a yearly average on my knox football trips. i wanted to know the commitment of those who would be willing to sacrifice their investments. Both, non-ticket and ticket holders are essential and both should represent one another where they reside. There is a lot to be said concerning how the season ticket-holders represent us all in Vol Nation. Don't shallow your thinking...it segregates the nation.
