Bc they draw more eyeballs than reruns and scripted shows are way more expensive. They exist to make affiliates happy. For CBS keeping them happy is a billion dollar business. It also helps with brand relevance etc.. Rating are down big no doubt. But it's consumed at high levels on social media like twitter and you tube.

I have never watched the American SNL in any full capacity (though I have seen the new British one), and I absolutely love the clips I see on Facebook/Twitter throughout the week. I don’t get how these snippets are making them enough money compared to their spot on network television back in the medium’s heyday, but I appreciate them nonetheless.

His most recent extension (1 year) *allegedly* had a 45% pay cut. Of course, he did have a big drop in shows. 4/week for 36 weeks. Cut staff/music big time.

Pretty clear ABC going to see how the market looks without Colbert but pretty clear without improvements, Fallon/NBC will be last guy standing...

Of course Trump admin is dumb enough to martyr this guy so who knows..

If the FCC targets Kimmel, it also must target White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt given her remark prior to the event that Trump’s speech “will be funny, it will be entertaining – there will be some shots fired tonight.”

The Tonight Show on NBC is an institution bc of Carson. I think it would take a lot for them to completely pull the plug on Late Night as a whole.

It goes back a little farther than Carson really, (Jack Parr) but Carson was a kingmaker like no one before him.

When the institutionalized hatred of a president has faded, these clowns will be sent packing. For now, they keep it front and center and they will have jobs even at a loss.

I dislike Kimmel, but will also defend his right to free speech. It wouldn't break my heart if he got taken off the air, but I would rather it be because he costs more than he pulls in.

Honestly, Kimmel and Colbert should be pretty grateful for Trump. He’s given them content for over a decade . I don’t have a problem with comedy at the expense of any elected official at all, but when that’s pretty much your go to nightly, it gets old and of course your audience will be cut in half eventually.
