Jimbo has aTm at the brink of the playoff. Within a couple of years he has taken them to 8-1 on a full SEC schedule. Just before that his career appeared to be stumbling at FSU where he has posted a loosing conference record and lowest win total of his career.

Fisher comes off older than he is and at only 55 he could be at aTm for a long time. Strangely, UT fans were on this board poopooing this hire. A guy that has won everywhere he coached and has had earned a NC was seen as a, “meh,” hire.

After averaging 11 wins a year, his program went 3-6 in the conference. Rumors about his dissatisfaction with the administration ultimately led to him resigning to take the Aggie’s job. Claims of him running away from his problems at FSU and cashing in at the expense of aTm abounded. What seemed to be a lesser program swoops in and steals him from an elite program. Since then, FSU has cratered (their record is worse than UT’s over the past three years).

aTm had gone through similar steps of trying to find that next up and comer, paying less proven coaches absurd amounts of money to continually hover around middle of the pack. A program that spent its life playing second fiddle to Texas leaves it’s conference to join a fiercely more competitive league. It then pushed all its chips in and went after a proven winner. FSU now is in up-and-comer mode and floundering with Mike Norvell.

The takeaway is that FSU has internal problems that opened the door for an elite coach to jump ship. Jimbo referred to his new school as “cult like.” It’s obvious that he did not see what he needed, despite winning at the highest possible level just a few years prior. I think he made an incredibly bold and wise decision. This was something Fulmer should have done not long after he realized what he had in Mike Hamilton. The difference was Fulmer’s loyalty to his alma mater, something Jimbo did not share with FSU.

Until UT fixes itself, it doesn’t matter who it hires. It’s sad that the Vols were left with Pruitt as a finalist, but that is a result of the total dysfunction within the administration and booster system.

FSU didn’t give him the $$ to compete with the elite teams. He was always having to campaign for locker room improvements, $$ for coaching improvements, etc. Their facilities are a dump.

He has no such issue at A&M with all the oil $$.

A&M hiring Jimbo was a home run and there was never a doubt about it. Their leadership identified the opportunity and seizing it. I envy them.

Yeah, before that, we had sucky hires. Sumlin (Johnny Football saves him), Sherman, Dennis Fraudchione, etc. We fired our own Fulmer (RC Slocum), as our facilities lagged behind texas’. Once A&M was finally dedicated to facilities - and got a home-run here, that’s when things changed. I still remember the ESPN talking heads saying Scott Frost, etc we’re better hires than Jimbo.

While FSU facilities might not be Top notch compared to some elite programs....Dump might be a bit of a overstatement

Until Jimbo puts a win on the board against Saban his seat will always be warm and getting warmer. T A&M is a lot like UT and Auburn in that the fan base does not tolerate losing against an opponent it appears they cannot beat, most especially Bama. If Jimbo goes down against Bama next year, rumblings will start up, if he goes down against them 4 in a row he may not survive it, 5 in a row, he gone.

Maybe maybe. I think booster are smart enough not to overreact in near future. Yes Saban may beat him every time. However Saban has to be nearing retirement in next 5 years. If you blow out a coach who literally just needs to get past Saban then when that obstacle is removed Jimbo would likely be the most accomplished coach to try and take over the division for a period.

We have been saying Saban would retire in the next three years the entire time he has been at Bama.

I wouldnt put a whole lot of eggs in that basket. Especially 75 million guaranteed.

Jimbo did leave the FSU football program in far worse shape than it was when he was hired as FSU head football coach.

2013 Nat. Champs. Win% at FSU over 76%, best for any coach in their history. Don't particularly like the guy, but FSU has/had real internal issues.

Until this season Jimbo was panned by many on VN and around the country. He still hasn’t beaten Bama. And he won’t get respect until he does. Should they have been in the playoff instead of OSU? IMO yes. But that still doesn’t fix the national perception of A&M. He needs to show that he can knock the king off the mountain top.
