Jim Cheney Vs. Derek Dooley

YI think CJC is too smart to call long passes so often on 3rd and short.

Apparently not.

If you're saying that all those bombs were called by Bray against the wishes of the Offensive Coordinator....then well, I would just say that you're being naive.

If Clowney was blocked and Bray never fumbled it from a blindside hit and he actually threw a TD that play... you would be singing his praises.

No, because with a minute left, SC would have thrown 3 or 4 20-yard passes in a row and beat us at the clock.

So, no. It was extremely important the we 1) eat the clock and 2) score a TD.

Therefore, that call was the worst thing we could have done.

And he's shown over and over that he has no clue how to playcall in the SEC. This wasn't the first time.

The O was on fire and was moving the ball down the field. Bray was on fire that game. You give him the chance to make the play before you line up and kick the FG.

That play call was completely justified.

If TN just ran the ball 3 times and then kicked a FG to tie it... but then lost in OT, you would be on here crying about how Dooley has no balls and just ran the ball 3 times to settle for OT.

Your username suits you.

You beat me to it. Some dig pretty deep to find anything negative. These type people are unlikely to have very many happy moments in their lives.

I've been very supportive of the coaches, newbie.

This game was just too much. It was an obvious coaching error, and it cost us the game.

I forgot. People only watch football and become fans once they join the internet message boards.

Before that, we sat around and jerked each other off wondering how else we could waste our time. And here we are.

I can't understand why some people hate Chaney. He has done very well to me. UT has scored more against fla and ga than any other team this year and we scored the second most against usce. We scored 31 against msu. Those totals are pretty impressive and much better than an 0-5 sec record. Has every play call been perfect? No, of course not, but that's unrealistic to expect absolute perfection. Regardless who the coach is next year, Chaney remaining at oc wouldn't bother me at all.

I don't hate Chaney. I think he's good at what he's good at. He's a good passing game coordinator. He's a good Ace or empty backfield OC.

I think every time you see a two back set, two tight ends, wildcat...you see Dooley and what he wants and I don't think Chaney is comfortable with that.

I posted a link of a Purdue game and you see the running plays Chaney likes, you can see the plays where Patterson is running the ball from the slot...That's Chaney. Also watch how fast the ball comes out of Brees' hands. Also, how many passes of 20 or more yards do you see? I'm not talking YAC, I'm talking how far Brees throws the ball. That's Chaney and it's not Bray.

All I've ever said is that it's like a bad marriage and the thing that bothers me the most is that there is no identity. We aren't a power running team, we're not a spread offense, Wildcat/Zone Read/Spread Option, we're not that either.

And it's a shame because we might have the best offensive line in the country, great receivers, decent to great QB, adequate TE's. We're missing a big time RB, and despite Jay Graham who is a great recruiter, it's a hard sale, great RB's don't want to go to a place where they don't get 20 touches a game.

Chaney seems to have changed and improved some ( or somebody changed the offense for him). Now the kids don't excute especially at the QB position.

Like some have already pointed out its a little to late. What really bothered me was running the football out of shotgun so much. Is it really that complicated just line up under center and run the football?

I agree. You can tell by Neal's touches 4 out of the first 6 games he had over twenty attempts. In 2011, Tauren Poole only had 2 games out of 12 over 20 carries. So he either changed or somebody made him change in terms of the run game.

Chaney can design a prolific passing game but I'm not sure that it ever gets us to the promised land in the sec where you have to be balanced. We get a little too inventive at times like throwing a long pass on 3rd and 1 against the best defensive team in the country.

CJC hasn't proven a damn thing against anyone that matters.

Honestly, he gets his rep from coaching Drew Brees (I still can't believe someone wrote Breeze), that's it. I think it was more Brees than CJC.

Yes, I know we've scored a lot of points this year and racked up useless yards. He still hasn't beaten anyone, and he's had chances on the final drive to do so and has come up bankrupt.

Can't speak for all of you, but personally I'll be glad when he leaves with Dooley.
