And he's had his hands full since he's been here, changing culture, laying foundation, teaching players how to practice, how to study film, how to actually go to the weight room and that they have to go no option, and he's made great hires. I'm not givin a pass we should be able to beat Kentucky at home, but maybe we was worse off than what we thought from the last regime. Or it's just cause we're Tennessee and we can't have nice things............ever!!!!

To each point

Changing Culture/Laying Foundation - We have transititioned from a soft, finesse team to a more old fashioned physical team. I don't think trying those type of extreme transformations are really smart to do in the SEC with an inexperienced coach given how quick progress needs to be shown for recruiting purposes. Biggest concern with culture is how often the team has quit. You can maybe pass off the quitting the last 2 games of Y1 as "Butch's players" but the second half against UK was really concerning since the team rolled over. In a perfect world, he's given 5 or 6 years to do this transformation but we don't live in that world.

How to Practice - Not sure this is measureable but not sure we are really seeing this on the field yet.

How to study film - We've shown for 2.5 years that we aren't prepared at the beginning of halves. Not sure we've seen progress here yet.

Weight Room - Injuries have been down so yes, he's improved this. Even with the questionable S&C choice this offseason, he has far surpassed Butch here. The S&C improvements along with recruiting and winning close games are the 3 items that give me some hope for more success in the near future.

Great Hires - This is debatable. He hired two coordinators with no P5 experience during his first year. Friend has been a disaster. Weinke hasn't delivered what was thought. 3/4 of the hires this offseason look worse "on paper" than prior guys on staff.

"The first thing for us is don't turn the ball over. "

This explains the crappy offensive game plans. Now, while I don't deny that turnovers can make a huge difference, surely, scoring points is the "first thing". "Make plays" HAS to be more of a priority than "don't turn it over." With that thinking, the best offense in the country last year was Oregon State, who was 5-7 and 47th in the country in scoring, but only had 6 turnovers.
You just can't play that way and expect wins.
I’d say it’s pretty revealing that Neyland’s first maxim is: “The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.”

A hallmark of Saban's teams...

With a little 'looking the other way' from the illustrious SEC refs.... 😎

I hate to pick on you but I hate the "Give Pruitt _ years - He know football" point. You know who else knows football? Every other coach in the SEC. Pruitt doesn't know football anymore than Saban, Stoops, Smart, Mullen, Jimbo, etc. There's a lot more to being a SEC coach than "knowing football." You have to set culture, make adjustments, have team prepared, make great hires, etc.
...trust your coaches, be the CEO, not micromanage,

Well, that sucks that Whitehead will never get to take a single snap in Orange this season...shoulder surgery this week will sideline him until next spring. He is a 230lb bruiser that still has legit speed and ability..the highest rated (,high 4 *) back of the 2020 class. Kid is very talented, and fits in our plans perfectly since the 2 RBs we always rotate are really 3rd down "scatbacks," and we need a " battering ram" for 1st and 2nd down to move the chains...and actually gain positive yards after contact. Our RBs this year have been very easily tackled . Rarely ever break a tackle. We need a back that can run through arm tackles.

This bodes very well for Hodge though. He is 6ft and 225lbs and runs with an attitude. He knows Exactly what to do when these clowns try to arm tackle him. He can run right through arm tackles and hit those holes with anger looking to truck somebody.

Hopefully Dee Beckwith can stay at WR...he is a mismatch nightmare in the slot, or out wide...at 6ft5 or 6ft6 and 235lbs with good speed...he will clown LBs and Safeties given the opportunity. Chaney needs to build a package around him the way Floriduh has with their 6ft6 TE. Maybe Coach is trying him at RB because he knows good and damn well that JG CAN NOT throw him the ball accurately to save his life...at RB all he has to do is hand the man the ball. What a freaking joke . We need Beckwith out there regardless. JG needs to sit his ass down. Permanently. As every single fan has known for some time now....

Hyatt is 1 of the fastest kids in the Nation with his 4.31 forty time. Elite, elite speed. He showed last game that he is also a skilled WR that can make big catches and run nice routes already as well. He will be a star here when and if we have a decent QB to throw him the ball...think All SEC 1st team like the Bama WRs...he is THAT talented and fast. Just have to find a QB to accurately throw the ball to him...

They could announce Bob Kesling is starting at QB and they would have to adjust for quicker decisions

That's a close one Cotton. I think Bob could probably feel pressure and get rid of the ball faster, work through his progressions quicker, but believe JG could take Bob in a straight 40 yard dash, albeit by a half a step.

JG would fumble the ball though. Bob would just mispronounce his name.

I wished DJ Uiagalelei would transfer to UT just so we could hear Bob try to pronounce his name in game.

Don’t care any more. He can say whatever he wants but all I hear is, “Well boys, we’re going to do the same things we’ve done every week and lost. Our team goals now are to compete with Vandy and teams with equivalent talent. Those are the only teams we can beat with JG at QB, my best man Friend as OL coach, and my boy Weinke at QB coach. TN is at the bottom of the barrel now, aight”.

CLEARLY the number one goal for every team is NO TURNOVERS every game. With rare exceptions the team that turns it over loses. I know at least two games I watched Saturday it was mentioned numerous times during the course of the game the only reason one team was even in the game was turnovers. Obviously we don’t want to play scared or be afraid of turning it over but NOT turning it over is a different mind set. I guess we can refer to our first two games and the point is proven. Not directing it at you because I think you agree. I just realized I replied back to wrong person but I’m too lazy to undo it! 😂😂😂

Does sound like Pruitt was really not a fan of Brumbaugh. Stating the obvious, of course, but he has a lot of criticisms that revolve around the D-line right now.

Won't watch any pro sports except the PGA and UFC. I'll do men's college football, basketball and baseball. Any of these start taking knees and they'll get kicked to the curb as well.

I'm a huge Pruitt fan, BUT to be true and real, this team has shown poorly when looking at basics/fundamentals.
Forget QB for a minute and consider this:
1. Tackling has been terrible.
2. Leverage/push in the interior has been bad.
3. How do you expect to run a physical old school offense w/o solid TE play, and w/o a big back for short conversions?

Conclusion: Regardless, Pruitt deserves at least one more year, but I do think w/o a strong showing during the second half of this season, he will be on the hot seat.

I am not saying he needs 5 years. I am saying he isn't getting the same product on Saturday that he gets the rest of the week. And that is squarely on him and his staff. What he knows is not translating into production. If he doesn't figure that out, he needs to go. I think this year is kind of a wash given the conditions for every team. The haves have it better this year even with the loss of camp and practice time because they already have better players. The have nots needed the time more and did not get it. I think he gets next year and if it isn't trending way up, he's gone. I think he needs to win the east next year or at least have been a bad call away from it.
