Okay, this isn't about coaching. It's about public speaking. Speaking with a microphone in your face.

Watch Jeremy closely for a few pressers and coach shows. See if he doesn't remind you a bit of Steve Spurrier.

Not just the accent, though that contributes. And not just the innate knowledge of the game, either. And not just a willingness to speak frankly about how well a player did and what he can improve on. And not just the barely-hidden annoyance at what they think are dumb questions.

There's a shared sense of humor there, too. It's hard to see right now, because Pruitt doesn't have a lot to crow about. But you can sense it bubbling just under the surface, waiting to come out.

They've got a lot in common, I think, in how they interact with the media. Especially if you imagine Spurrier dialed down a notch or two with a quaalude. :)

Anyway, watch close next time CJP is on. See if you see it, too.

Go Vols!

Pruitt's accent is deep south. Spurrier's accent is Appalachian. Big difference to my ears.

Brother, I didn't say they were identical twins. :)

The accent is one small part of this. Maybe you don't see it; that's okay. It just struck me while watching the coach show this morning.

I think Pruitt sense of humor is more along the lines of Saban's, who I actually think it is a quite funny guy.

Nothing funny about Saban, I see him on the news everyday here in Alabama. Anything but funny. He is an a$$ and knows he can get by with it being he is a god in alabama.

I guess that's why my neighbor thinks I'm an ass.. my sense of humor tends toward the immediate reactionary rather than the rehearsed lines.

Pruitt wins games like Spurrier then let’s talk. Winning the press conference means ****.

Yeah, see, that whole "this isn't about coaching" warning that I intentionally opened the thread with? That was for you.

This isn't about coaching. :)

I think Spurrier is a lot more comfortable than Pruitt is in front of a crowd or cameras, it is obvious Pruitt is uncomfortable in that situation. Spurrier is a smart aleck prone to talk trash when he wins and lash out when he doesn't. Pruitt is plain spoken and blunt. I do not see them even close to being alike.

Unlike Spurrier, I don't see any whineyness to Pruitt yet.

Coaching and winning is all that matters.
I agree as a bottom line. If the game were inventive and comic press conferences Derek Dooley would be King of the Hill. I liked his goofy Style

Pruitt is first time HC in front of the headlights so of course he is not comfortable. he will get more comfortable as time goes on and gets wins under his belt. I do not think he will ever get to like the media or give answers to stupid questions. That said, I can definitely see him getting more tongue in cheek, quippy in his comments. Consider that his two main sources of inspiration are Saban and Propst, so you can extrapolate a bit of what he is likely to think is a good media "personality" lol Not sure that will ever translate to a Spurrier level trollfu but who knows as years go by and wins pile up?

Loved in his presser today when he was discussing Randy Sanders as ETSU’s coach.....after talking about what a great coach and teacher he is and how his team would play with great effort and discipline, he deadpanned that Sanders is an “average golfer”. It was well-done.

As long as he doesn't abandon his team in the middle of the year when things aren't going well, then I have no problem with him being a Spurrier type.
