You may read CJP that way, I don't. He might be a little frustrated at the lack of talent development, but he's not defeated, or tired, I assure you.
I agree! Coaching and recruiting is his passion! He does not like dealing with the press and community relations. When he begins winning, and I believe it will come, everything will be fine.

This quote from Pruitt should say it all. I mean we have upperclassmen on almost every level of the defense and on the OL. Yet Pruitt is saying they are having to spend extra time on simple basic things like blocking and tackling. My God...
Sounds like Pruitt's doing everything he knows to do, but this group is not responding

Two things here:

1. The previous coaching staff evidently did a piss poor job of developing talent. Couldn't even teach tackling and blocking 101. 4-8 last year, enough said.

2. We have no upperclassmen leaders on this squad. Hopefully, Darrell Taylor will emerge as one on defense and Jauan Jennings on offense, in the upperclassman ranks.
I believe there are potential leaders in the underclassman ranks that will emerge hopefully sooner rather than later.

IF, we have leaders emerge, CJP will put them in a position to win IMO......................

The clips they aired on Finebaum, CJP looked tired and defeated. Reminded me of Butch last year. Maybe they left out the inspirational stuff.

He did look tired. Defeated is a stretch. I have plenty of questions about Pruitt. The one thing I don't doubt is the man's passion. I'm going to dare to believe he's tired because he's been coaching our guys up like crazy. Even work you love can be taxing and he's never really dealt with a rebuild like this. The off week is likely a real gut check for him. I hope he's up to the challenge.

Yep. You can only do so much coaching. At some point, players have to do their share. But I believe Pruitt looks a little frustrated because the players aren't doing their jobs. Imagine how frustrating it would be to inherit a football team with upperclassmen and you have to teach them the basics of football all over again.

(emphasis mine)
You're correct about the limits to coaching. These players are in (what should be...) a PINNACLE NCAA program where a certain level of talent skills, and overall physical ability should be there for any coach to work with. It's fair to say that Coach Pruitt is having a difficult time competing at the highest level with SOMEBODY ELSE'S idea of "talent" but as to frustration...if he didn't know in advance what he was getting in to, he shouldn't be here in the first place and won't be here for very long.
I'm OK with giving him time to build a "Pruitt Team", and see where that takes us.

i'll add to this...

all i've ever heard CJP say about the previous staff is "i don't know how it was done here before...." which is code for "you have no idea what kind of shape this team was left in"

and for the upper classmen, siap, but there's only 11 players left on this roster from the 2015 class. 1 is a long snapper. none of them are bonafide leaders. and most have underwhelmed thru out their careers here, despite lofty ratings. ratings misses? under developed? not adjusting well to new schemes/coaching? probalby a combo of all that.

no matter what you think of the "talent" on this team, there's just no denying that the way this gets fixed is turning the roster over. which is why they made such great efforts to bring in as many new guys as possible this off season. if you really think about it, they did A LOT by adding as many transfers/grad and Juco, as they did....having nearly 20 "new" players for fall vs. what was here in the spring is pretty much ridiculous....

so, adding players thru recruiting will happen. and we'll probably see (like we already have with some of the freshmen playing this year) some immediate impacts from the incoming class. but they're still gonna be freshmen and true sophomores next year....so the development peice to this is the one that is just gonna take longer. the returning guys from this year will see gains just by being in year 2 of it.

This was what Kiffin said about fulmer's players ..... and Dooley said about Kiffin's players ... and Butch said about Dooley's players. See a pattern here???
The only one wrong is Lane....as usual. Fulmer is a HOFer, the most kids in the NFL, more future NFL Hall of Famers then this school has had combined. Oh and is the most successful in school history. So Lane is a buffoon.
