Jeremy Pruitt ETSU Week

Pruitt will never and should never say it but there is no way we don't spend more time correcting mistakes from WV and the coaches spend more time on Florida planning than we would waste game planning for the next two games. We should be able to beat the brakes off the next two with minimal game planning. If not then it is worse than it looked against WV.

I count this game as chalk. IF the worst happens, I will be calling for a new coach starting next Sunday.

I'm sick of new coaches and am probably the last person on this board who wanted to fire Phil, Doolittle, or Botch. But, if Pruitt lost T-H-I-S game, then he would have to be fired before reaching the tunnel.

The suspense for this game is about at the "watching junk cars rust" level. I'll be interested, but only as a scrimmage to watch our new scheme and team play. Similar for next week.

We won't lose this one. With all respect to the Bucs, ETSU is not a giant killer, I would not even call them an upper echelon team within the SOCON.

While Florida may be the shiny prize to beat in a few weeks, jumping the gun and getting overconfident can come back to bite big time. ETSU is a FCS team, and a weak FCS team at that. Generally 99% of the time the FBS team, be it a Power 5 or Group of 5 school, beats the daylights out of the FCS school, often by double digit margins.

That being said, it's not unheard of for upwards of 9 or 10 FCS level teams to pull off an upset every year. With four exceptions, the loosing FBS teams have either been Group of 5 schools, or schools from the Power 5 conferences that where at or near to bottom of their conferences. Then of course there is the 2013 season, when 16 different FCS teams pulled upsets, including Eastern Washington knocking off then #25 ranked Oregon State, and then FCS level Georgia Southern humiliating Florida. This first full week of game play saw 5 separate FCS teams pull upsets.

Ironically though, of the five FBS level teams that where defeated by an FCS level opponent this past week, one of them was UTEP, the very UTEP that comes to Knoxville in a couple of weeks.

More then likely, Tennessee should handle both ETSU and UTEP easily. But hopefully Pruitt will keep them focused and not getting ahead of themselves. God help the program though if they become the sixth FCS upset this year.

This is a team we should totally dominate even with the problems we have. It’s basically a high school all star team. If we come out again with one or two sacks we got a long road ahead.

We are in for a really rough road ahead regardless of what happens this week.

Thanks for posting. Based on what we saw on Saturday, we better take even teams like ETSU and UTEP seriously....we have little to no margin for error no matter who we’re playing.
I'm just hoping our secondary play improves. Our D-Line / linebackers need to get a kick in the rear end. If they are not penetrating the backfield against ETSU Pruitt needs to make substitutions almost immediately.

Hard not to like the fact he discussed his own critical error, unsolicited. Everyone has to have ownership.

Agree. I think Pruitt knows he messed upmagainst WV and he wants to fix that. A first time HC is going to take his bumps and bruises. I believe he will get better as the season goes on. But I expect us to struggle all year even against teams like ETSU.

Doubt we struggle against a team that just started back up 2 years ago ... Just saying.

I am really proud that UTs admin schedualed ETSU. Give our team a tough scrimmage and a learning/teaching opportunity and a big financial boost to a deserving home state program. No upset this week, not even close.

For real, people are being real dumb right now because they don't understand the dynamics of what happened on Saturday. This will be a rout, and I look for Pruitt to put some pressure on the defense to impose their will the next two weeks against REALLY bad teams. I'd be shocked if we allow more than two TDs the next two weeks.
