Brohm finished 6-6 in the big 10 this year with a roster consisting of the last 4 recruiting classes ranked 72, 80, 67, and 70. Shocked he even won a game with that roster. Whipped a pretty decent Mizzou team 35-3 and played every loss within 10 points with the exception of Michigan (18). I could get on board with this dude - give him Tennessee resources and he just might crush it.

Really? You've been crying about not accepting mediocrity for the past 4 years and now you're defending this potential hire?

Brohm is not a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination. He may be a good up and commer tho who can grow into something special here at UT. Not exactly world shaking but certainly not embarrassing.

Are you one of those posters who lacks the ability to put wins and losses into context based on roster and the type of job it actually is? If so I can help.

The idea of a "sure thing" is a myth. There are no sure things. No one knew if Gruden would have the patience to recruit and deal with college players. Even coaches who succeed in one place often have a hard time repeating at another. The guy who put Boise on the CFB radar completely flopped at Colorado.

You'll be doing the same thing you always do after this hire doesn't work out, either. A lot of us made the mistake in the past of trying to justify mediocre hires. I only assumed you wouldn't fall into the same trap.

Hiring a guy known as a top tier football mind... is not accepting mediocrity.

But be sure... the standard does not change. No matter who gets hired... they should get 3 to 4 years to prove they can get it done or you have to move on. If you hold on to a coach longer than that who hasn't done something significant... the program will start to sink again just like Jones just proved.

I hope we hire him no one out there better that they are even talking to. I know there a guys we rather have but this AD has a select few and this guy seems to be the best of that group.

He beat a bottom dweller Mizzou team.

Who do you want instead?

PS- the standard doesn't change no matter who is hired or what we think of them now.

I posted this elsewhere, but it bears repeating. Everyone clamoring for Petrino should be thrilled. Brohm runs Petrino's offensive philosophy without the baggage that comes with a Petrino hire. My only concern is that he would be Louisville's top choice when BP bolts for his next gig in a year or two.

36-16 as a HC isn't mediocre

He has more 10 win seasons than our last 2 coaches combined and he has only been a HC for 4 years

Never had a losing season as a HC, even after taking over a terrible Purdue team

Brohm >>>>>>Butch>>>>>>>Dooley

Brohm is a better choice than some.....and more of a gamble than others (of real possibilities).

However with this is Tennessee not doing exactly what they have been doing.....and what everyone got mad about? Butch came with a better resume, and while I know Brohm is not Butch.......but if Tennessee has to do something like this, why not try a VFL, or someone who is proven but maybe down, or maybe even an assistant.....or heck interview the lot of them (like many do and we should have started with) and go from there.
