247Sports Class of 2013 Top50 Recruiters

Other notables include Arkansas’ Sam Pittman, Alabama’s Lance Thompson, Nebraska’s Terry Joseph, USC’s Tee Martin and Ed Orgeron, Auburn’s Rodney Garner, and LSU’s John Chavis.

It is completely unsurprising the great recruiters that have come through Knoxville the past 20 years. Here’s to hoping some more current Vol coaches get on that list next year.

Liked Terry Joseph when he was at TN even though only here for 2 years, had he remained the DB coach last year might have been little better IMO.

He was a good recruiter but his secondary's were not well coached. Also, if I recall this correctly, he did not play college football which caught him a lot of flack from posters on here.

Last year wasn't the DB coaching as much as it was the 3-4 scheme

Another former Tennessee coach that had a pretty good year recruiting, but didn't make the top 50 is Matt Luke. Responsible for both Tunsil and Golson as well as some others for Ole Miss

I think I heard that Fox named Chris Kiffin as the recruiter of the year. But, some around OM say that he may not even be the best recruiter at the school.

Some laughed at Dooley for brining Joseph with him, and people still criticize Jones for bringing some of his staff. You never know what these guys can do with better resources and facilities. You can be an oustanding recruiter at a La. Tech or a Cincy, but it is still tough to get the players at those locations.

Yeah, I probably would've gone with Wesley Mcgriff. Very underated as a defensive backs coach as well, Casey Hayward being just one example of what he has done.
