A caller on Le Batard's show just put forth the proposition that Jason is the worst 1st round pick in the history of the National Football League. The issue is now being debated.

Ouch. That's a shame. Allen was a stud as a Vol...and, going into his senior year, I thought he was a future pro-bowler. I'm really surprised he's been so bad in the league.

I thought he would at least be solid, at least he got his money. Why haven't they cut him yet?

I guess this is exhibit A on why Slade is not worth having around... Or is that exhibit Q5829?

How so? Slade got production out of a guy who apparently can't tie his shoes in the NFL. How is that an indictment of his coaching?

There are busts as big as Jason Allen every year..... but I remember him getting run over at the goal line by Ronnie Brown and later beaten deep by Courtney Taylor in the '04 Auburn game......Whoever's idea it was to draft him didn't watch that film for sure....Wasn't it Saban?

They've officially given up on the idea he can play corner in the NFL. At least they had as of last week. With these Dolphins, it's always card subject to change.

i don't think he's ever been the same playing since the hip relocation. That said, the blown coverages, and basicly being uncoachable, at the NFL level I don't understand.

I wouldn't call him uncoachable. All the Dolphin coaches praise his work ethic and willingness to listen, he just can't carry it into the games.

I thought you said they were teaching him how to play safety. I took that as saying, he didn't know how. Ya, Slade got production out of him. But if he did so without the player ever really knowing how to play the position, then the impact Allen could have had wasn't exactly maximized. He was never a shut down safety. He was a guy who could hit hard. Imagine if he was a guy that could hit hard and cover better.

I guess I am saying, I fail to see how getting value out of a player without teaching them skills beyond their physical ability is a good thing. In fact, it sounds a lot like what is being tried this year. Athletes are being plugged into the secondary, and getting burned.

Awaiting my ass whipping by hatvol...

Done for the year, thus wrecking my now 5-2 team in the keeper league I'm in with guys I went to law school with. At least Steven Jackson is coming back to help Tom Brady on my squad. If Chatman was any good, he wouldn't have been out of the league last year.

Jason dated a friend of mine's daughter while at UT.Seemed to be a good kid with his head on straight and did all the right things. Good upbringing and mom made sure he got his education. I really hoped he would do well. Its still early and I did see ability and effort during his time in Knoxville. If its not about the injury maybe he can turn it around. If not with the Phins...somewhere else.

Do you think the major injury he suffered at UT is a factor?
NFL scouts always talk about how essential hip flexability is for an NFL corner. I can't imagine knocking one's hip out of it's very socket would be a good thing in that respect.

Allen is the kind of guy who will do just fine in life if he leaves the NFL tomorrow.
