To be great. Not sure why a select small% of you on here are so ready to demote him / get a grad transfer etc.

This guy has as much arm talent as Anyone in cfb. When he starts to get time w the improvement of his OL you are goin to see a special QB. He has fire , toughness and WANTS to be here. You people constantly downing him either are shortsighted, have no idea how the game is played or just a bunch of bitches that love to complain and the QB is as always the easiest target.

The OL is very young ( outside of Richmond ) and inexperienced. Even Trey smith is just a sophomore and playing a position that he isn’t used to playing on a high level.

JG is far from a finished product and needs TIME... as does many on this team.

I think many people just want a quick fix. Its like people who think the Browns have always been just 1 star QB away from winning, not the fact they have had an incompetent administration, bad roster, poor coaching & more.

With the Vols we finally have a supportive Athletic Department, a coach who isnt afraid to tell recruits that our team SUCKS right now and he can make them better, and patience from the majority of our fanbase. JG can be great, I agree, and with even the 6th best (not 13th) SEC line in the conference I think he could be amazing.

To shorten you post... This Team is far from a finished product and needs time.
Amazing whats on the top line here!!! Just found some of what it allows you to do! Been wondering how others have been "coloring" their posts. Like this football team, I need Time.

He can end up being a serviceable to good QB at the college level. He definitely has elite arm strength that’s not what’s holding him back. But if you wanna be great you’ve gotta go out there and make some plays regardless of who’s around you. I’ve been rooting for him since last season but it just doesn’t seem like he has “it”

Not seeing greatness out of him but he could definitely be serviceable or very good with a better situation around him in terms of protection, scheme, and supporting cast. Believe he has proven his toughness at this point and the leadership ability seems to be developing.

Think the pocket awareness and pre snap read criticisms are legitimate however. Those are things that can get cleaned up with experience and a better O line though.

Everything starts up front on both sides of the ball. Period. Bad blocking will make anyone look bad. He's getting hit in 7 man protections with very little time to throw. That shouldn't happen. Get a better O line and it fixea a lot of things. Put Tua or whoever else in our offense right now and its not gonna be much different.

A QB like Tua would disguise a lot of the problems in our offense. We saw that with dobbs in 2015 and 2016. A QB on Dobbs or Tuas level is worth every bit of 3 wins a season over the QBs we have.

Add into the mix that the OC's are limiting him it seems plus he was rated dual-threat which obviously isn't true. Dobbs was and he really put pressure on opposing defenses. They can tee-off and are on JG. OC's should have installed roll-out passes and mis-direction to keep defenses honest.

Agreed.

He isn't a threat to break a game open with his legs but he has enough athleticism to handle the roll outs and bootlegs that have been vacant in this offense.

Don't understand why they aren't doing this more given the shortcomings of the O line. Kiffin salvaged a decent season out of Crompton doing this and they had a terrible o line as well.

Do you believe he is better in his 3rd year @UT than Dobbs was in his 3rd year? Remember Dobbs had a far inferior coaching.

As a passer , absolutely, will never be the runner Dobbs was but few have been so knock there. If our current OL progresses like it should for next year and w Wanya And Darnell Wright added could be large improvement next year. This kid w a decent OL and another year in the system could be special.

There are no pre snap reads. His plays come from the sideline,.. It's coaches who get the team in the right call after seeing what the defense is doing.

JG is improving, but he still has a ways to go through no fault of his own. He can only get so much done with a pathetic OL that gives him minimal protection and not enough time to stay in the pocket to throw the ball.

No doubt JG could win behind Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, LSU, or most any good Oline
JG is not the problem at Tennessee, not by a long shot

With this Oline? He is a player with a good chance to get a concussion. Poor bast***, hope he makes it through this stretch. Who knows, maybe we can win a few games in the east and make a bowl. Surely, we cant go two full seasons without an SEC win? ... oh sh*t we really are at rocky bottom

Some of the hits JG has taken would make many QB's want the backup to take over, quickly.........he's probably lucky he has not been knocked out of a couple of games
