I haven't been against JG at all and have liked everything he has done this year, minus a shortage of TD's and wins. I didn't complain about it but I can see where some would get the opinion that it was his fault. IMO it was all about play calling. Yesterday the coaches put the game on his shoulders and he stood tall. I have to trust that he won the job fair and square with this coaching staff. Yesterday he showed what he could be against a stout defense. Despite the offensive woes of Auburn, their defense is really good and JG tore them apart every way possible. I look forward to what he will do the rest of this year and damn sure looking forward to what he does next year. The line will all be back and his weapon WR's will be there. Despite whatever happens the rest of this season, next season might be a sight to behold with JG progressing.

With that said, those JG haters, they will be back the next time he throws a pick or the offense stutters. Anyone that follows the official game threads can watch Volnation posters go from "he sucks" to "our future is bright with JG" in a matter of minutes.

Thats real easy to say after his best game yet. However, that's only one game. If he does decent against Bama, then we can say for sure that he will be the QB for his team. There's a reason people wanted Chryst. Looking for a spark anywhere.
There was a “spark” yesterday. Will we see it going forward? Who knows, but I did see the receivers having some belief in him yesterday and the coaches. You could feel the confidence off those players.

Lol. While he did play good yesterday time will tell if he finally made the turn to being good or if this is the old blind squirrel finds a nut territory.

That and the backup qb is always the "best" qb

OP makes a thread and runs. JG had the best game since he has been at Tn. One game does not make him great all of a sudden. I hope he has turned the corner and the Bama game will answer that question, thats if the OL dont have him killed before the 1st quarter ends.

I was openly critical of his attitude last year.
This year I said it’s pretty clear he’s the best option. To me it looks like he took a step forward. He will probably have some more bad games but here’s to hoping he’s got a lot of growing and improving left in him.

Although I love Pruitt’s desire to win every game on our schedule, I wonder if it’d be a good idea to bench JG against Bama?

Bama’s defense is young but very talented & fast.

I’m afraid our O-Line might lose their composure, making it hard on JG.

Nobody expects to win this game anyway but there’s still plenty of winnable games left on the schedule. We’ll definitely need JG healthy moving forward.

Great win. He made some nice throws. He's still not a finished product. They're still not taking chances with him on complex reads. UT recognized their advantage at WR over Auburn's CB's. Taking nothing at all away from the throws JG made... but that's a pretty safe throw. Throw it to a bigger athlete on the sideline where your risks of getting unexpected "help" from another DB are minimal.

He made some good throws but to consistently beat good or better teams... he will have to develop to a point where they trust him to throw slants, skinny posts, outs, quick outs, hitches, deep posts, etc. How many passes did he hit down the center of the field? I only remember the one to Chandler. It was a good game. He made some good throws. But what he did vs Auburn can be defended if they don't trust him to do more with coverage reads.

Why throw the riskier middle passes when the sideline routes are working? Coming in his completion percentage was better between the numbers.

I just don't count last year he had no coaching his first two years. So he is a RS SOPHOMORE and first year coaching and conditioning I am counting this year and people have said they hardly ever see the football hit the ground in practice and I have seen him improve everyweek.

No reason if it is working. But future opponent DC's will see what UT did and take it away. JG has the arm to make "all the throws". They aren't letting him throw a lot of stuff in the middle. The answer to the question "why" is the ID of his weaknesses as a QB.

I've been critical but have NOT said that he cannot develop... only that he really needed to. I've been attacked for saying he's lagged in the mental portion of the game. I'm not sure what else you could claim considering his elite physical ability and toughness. The OL held up pretty well vs Auburn. He got hit a few times but it took time for some of those long balls to develop. They've gotten better.

All I'm saying is he still has a ways to go and UT really needs him to reach a level of competence with his reads and recognitions that the coaches trust him to make throws with more risks. By and large, those more risky throws are the ones that pay the bigger dividends. If he can throw behind the LB's then they won't be able to run up and stuff the run. But he has to be on target. JJ bailed him out on that one critical play. He has to throw those consistently well.

It's not the time or the place. We are one play away from needing KC.
True that. And for whatever reason, he gets hit hard and awkwardly. When he got bent in half yesterday, I thought that was game. But he finds a way to comeback. Gritty and gutsy. Good to be young lol
