Butch got outcoached and that cost us Oklahoma and Florida in 2015. This year we flopped to USCe and Candy. Let's not compare the two. Dabo also revamped his staff and things got better. Butch isn't willing to give up control. He'll be sent packing late November/early December.

what does that have to do with what I said?

All I am saying is that you can't point to a year that you won your conference but lost your bowl in 70-33 as a great year. Great years don't force you to Fire coaches.

It has everything to do with your post. A great season doesn't hinge on a single game. If UT had gone 12-2 this year with two losses to Bama... even if those games were ugly... I would certainly consider that a great year and definitely wouldn't see it as any reason to question Jones' progress.

Clemson didn't see it that way either. The questions about Swinney came in year two when they expected to be pretty good and went 6-7.

The Dabo Sweeney lead Tigers of Clemson give up 70 points to WVU en route to an embarrassing loss in the Orange Bowl. Sweeney, in his 4th year as head coach at Clemson, had (according to most native fans) reached his maximum potential as a head coach and was very much on the hot seat. Coordinators were run out of town in a desperate attempt at salvaging Dabo's tenure in Clemson. Fast forward to 2017...

That is your case study as to why our hair-triggered, idiotic fan base should relax and let situations play out as they will. They won't, they will keep "demanding excellence" like it makes a difference (lol), but the wiser of us will enjoy the ride. Support these guys wearing our beloved orange, they may surprise you...

He also beat No. 5 Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship Game that year. Not sure the comparison fits, seeing as how Butch got owned by Vanderbilt and couldn't get his team ready after a bye against USCe.
