James Coley, who served as Florida State's coordinator the last three years, is confirmed accepting the position left open at UM when Jedd Fisch departed Jan. 19 for the Jacksonville Jaguars. FSU tried hard to keep Coley, and when word began circulating that he might be available some other schools around the country got into the mix as well.

He will make a reported $500,000 per year at UM, and while Florida State is believed to have come back with even more money, coach Jimbo Fisher was unwilling to give up play calling duties. And it's uncertain if that would have made a difference anyway.

Coley was no doubt drawn by a UM offense returning virtually all of its major pieces after averaging 31.4 points and 440.2 yards per game in 2012.

Coley also coached tight ends at FSU, but it's expected he will now handle the quarterbacks at UM in addition to his coordinator duties.

As the recruiting coordinator at Florida State in 2008 and 2009, Coley was instrumental in the Seminoles landing back-to-back Top 10 signing classes. He was named the top recruiter in the ACC in 2010 by ESPN.com.
