Jalen is a TE

He isn't big enough to play TE in D1, and he isn't nearly quick enough to play WR. I just can't see this working out.

But, I guess we'll see when it comes time and other schools start offering him a chance to play for them.

Aaron Hernandez says hi. Edit: someone beat me to it. He's plenty big enough and would probably have more longevity that position.

Jalen a TE?.... maybe ..... Quitter?..... apparently so. You know it's bad when state run radio calls a player a quitter..... Francis had no problem with it tonight

I'm terribly sorry if this has been posted already, and MODs please delete if so, but does anybody else see the hilarious irony in all the early talk about him being a TE possibly coming to fruition?

The 'He's too tall', 'He's moving to TE' conversations from years gone by. My how the idiots have been proven right.

For the record, I thought they were idiots too! I was wrong...maybe.

Same here. I thought it was idiotic for anyone to keep insisting he needed to play TE. I was wrong.

As a matter of fact, I heard PFort today say that NFL scouts coming to the facility have in recent months told him his stock as a running back has dropped/is dropping but many are intrigued with him trying to play TE at the NFL level, that he actually has better value there......so, after hearing that, perhaps that's why we've seen him say he's gonna try his hand at TE or even WR at his next stop.

Jason Witten is listed at 6-6 and 263. If Hurd can gain 20 more pounds of muscle, he would have the size.

I still don't see it happening, even at he college level. Why would any decent program burn a scholarship on a guy who quit his team mid-season, wants a position change, and will only have one year of eligibility remaining after a red-shirt year? It makes no sense to me.

You might be right but I am almost certain that Aaron Hernandez is AT LEAST 6'3.. Regardless Hurds 6'4 is more like 6'2 1/2 he would be a undersized tight end at the next level.. It just seems like from Saturday to Sunday the 6'5 250 in the NFL is quite different feom the 6'5 250 in college ball..

Disagree. I think Hurd is every bit of 6'4....same height as both Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates iirc.

I could see Hurd easily putting on 10 more lbs and playing at 250. We know he's at least a 4.5-4.55 guy and I think he has great hands and catches the ball effortlessly.

Also, heard PFort today say that NFL scouts coming to the facility in recent months have told him he has more value and interest from teams as a potential tight end

he would have been an ideal tailback in a power based system. The problem with the current system is they don't retain enough blockers ...so the RBs are running into a mess where 5 guys are trying to block 6 or 7.

He an Dobbs have both been victims or coaches trying to force square pegs into round holes.

Hurd would be a beast in an I formation with a hard-nosed fullback like Roland Poles, who used to knock linebackers on their asses, blocking for him. Another James Stewart, one of my favorite all-time Vols. Hurd is a power back, and power backs need a hole or space to gain a little momentum and then they can break tackles and break safeties and corners trying to tackle them. There isn't enough blocking in our scheme, which has Hurd getting the ball while practically standing still with no lead blocker, and being asked to run off-tackle.

yup ! The system failure comes back to Dobbs being asked to hit intermediate passes in a West Coast passing system...which he cant do. The defenses are putting more hats at the point of attack than there are blockers. Making it essentially impossible to run.

Rather than keep more blockers in , or switch to a power based design , the coaches are constantly trying to work within the confines of this system....which will not work with the current personnel. The system will not work without an accurate passer.

The mark of a good staff is to adapt to their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. If it frustrates me ..I know the players are feeling it

agree. If you look at Hurd's highlights his explosive, big plays were often on catches. Anyone who doesn't think this guy would be a hell of a tight end is crazy.
