Jalen Hurd has made a relatively successful transition to tight end at Baylor . Yesterday he had 9 catches for 126 yards and 1 TD. Am I the only Vol fan that is conflicted about him and future success.? On one hand, I loved him as a hard-nosed , hustling ball carrier at UT ( HE was on pace to become the all-time rushing leader if he had remained). On the other hand, the showboat play vs Ga when he got his bell rung was unnecessary , selfish and childish : then Butch handled it poorly. I think that without question Hurds abrupt departure after the incident divided the team and was the main factor in the steep decline of fortunes thereafter. The irony is that Hurd now says the main reason he left was that he was being used TOO MUCH. It goes back to Butch and his poor judgment ( he had Kamara on the bench -a future pro-bowler who was used sparingly) Does Butch or Hurd deserve the most blame ? Does it matter now? Probably not. I hope the kid makes it to the NFL at tight end, but I think his changing schools in mid-season will definitely give teams pause.

I noticed, as of last week, Dormady has no stats at Houston
Guess he isn't even playing

Hurd during his time here did show that he was better at catching passes out of the backfield than running the football. He had speed and power but just did not have the agility to be a great running back. If it is true he went to Butch stating he wanted to be switched to a receiver than Butch screwed up not recognizing he that would be the best move for Hurd and the team. I find myself interested in his career and hope he excels in the NFL.

Dang, I posted almost the same last week almost word for word. I felt Butch mishandled it starting at halftime at UGA. I feel it started the division. We were undefeated,(conference), heading into college station and Hurd didn't make the trip. The staff's try to shield the public from internal conflict. This led to irreparable damage. Defenses were keying on Hurd and CBJ should have used it to set-up play action. That was selfish on Hurd's part. He was a good runner and good blocker. He would have been forgiven eventually for the over-sight at UGA. Heck he came back and caught a TD pass in that very game. Had he kept his mouth shut and just played along he woulda broken that record and likely gotten a good contract to play on Sundays.
PS: He chose to be vocal and it impacted the team. Infected it really. Should have handled it privately with Butch one on one. Butch was in face-saving mode due to it and it led to the USCe loss and losing eastern division when he refused to go in game at columbia and Fils-aime fumbled.

I want to see him do well. Under no circumstance do I agree with how he left, but it's over now. I forgive him. He did some very good things though when he was here, and caught a touchdown when we finally beat Florida. He did us more good than harm and for that I respect him

I will take Hurd and Preston Williams all day every day and transition to a pass first, run second offense and win a lot more football games this year. Hurd is much, much better than all the tight ends and h backs we have on campus - he just is. No way of knowing ahead of time - but it would have been worth someone saying hey wait a minute. You might as well throw in T Higgins and a good quarterback and we would be very dangerous which surprise .... would also open up the running attack.

I don't know all the details and you don't want the lunatics running the asylum, but if we had those 3 guys I feel like we could just about pass the ball on anyone.
JG is slow to read defenses, slow to adjust, slow to react, slow to go through progressions, never checks down, has a long throwing motion, but I have to believe if it was just throw to one of the 3 really big, fast guys that are open -- he could get it to them.

We could have had a pretty amazing passing attack, if someone had guided things in that direction ..... imho.

I am to the point of thinking you might be one of the few who cares anymore. I wish him no ill will, but as a packers fan, I will not be too thrilled if he ends up in Green Bay. And I can't help but assume that Vols fans of the other 31 teams do not want to see him wearing their favorite NFL logo.At the moment, I still regard him as a pariah.

But as to assigning blame between Butch and Hurd, I am more interested in finding the guy who caused us to start right around the turn of the 21st century. I blame Ward retiring. Things pretty much started going south after that.

He moved to wr! He looks good. Was particularly to y’all for running back. IMO. Good move. He wanted to move to WR at UT. And butch refused it. One of the reasons he left.

He's definitely a very good athlete, but quitting on your team or being voted off your team..... whichever it was....speaks volumes about the guy's attitude. Maybe it was a learning experience for him and he's matured as a result.
It still sucks the way he refused to go in the game against SC..... and looking back..... this is where the current nose dive began.

He lacks character, he's a quitter. He quit on his team, our team, his state, our state, his season, and our season. I wish him no physical injury or harm, but I could care less whether or if he succeeds at Baylor or goes to the NFL. Let's hear no more about this guy.

I don't wish JH ill will...hope he has success. Sorry, but, really don't care to see a weekly update and debate about everyone's polarized feelings about him. Same for Nathan Peterman too...I hope he does well in NFL, but don't consider him a former Vol.

A record number of injuries to key players was the biggest contributing reason for the team's demise down the stretch; not the loss of one player, IMHO.

In my mind, I still blame him for the loss to USC for refusing to go into the game. I don't hate the man, but I'm certainly not pulling for him either.

I wish Jalen well. He's a Tennessee lad, from Hendersonville. Hope he has lots of success.

But I'll never give him the respect I have for our lads. He quit on them mid-season. He never gets that one back.

So yeah, glad he's doing well...but other than being from around here, he's now just another player on one of the Big 12 teams.
