Jahmai Mashack appreciation

i prefer mashack getting more minutes per game over vescovi. vescovi, imo, tries to do too much offensively. he has been an excellent 3-point shooter in the past but this year he attempts to drive into the lane toward the basket and gives up the ball way too often. zeigler, for awhile, was doing the same damn thing but started pulling up and hitting those soft floaters whereas vescovi is still turning the ball over way too much. UT had a total of 4 turnovers the entire game last night. i'm sure next season mashack's shooting will improve.

SV also stops fastbreak opportunities by dribbling the ball up the court. He needs to pass the ball up so the faster players can attempt to get easy baskets.

Wouldn't have been close if Vescovi was playing...
I don't know about this. The Vols may have lost. I really wonder if Mashack gets the same minutes if SV plays. Alexander may have got going with Santi on him. Santi is a good defender, but Mashack is elite. I have never seen guys get frustrated against Santi like they do when Mashack is guarding them. In the Bama and Creighton games guys were shook with Mashack guarding them. If Barnes is going to start SV, he needs to be on a short leash like Aidoo was in the second half. The Vols are three games away from being National Champions and this isn't the time to let someone figure things out.

The reason why we only had 4 TOs was because Creighton never forces TOs as a strategy, not because SV didn’t play. SV has eaten up some guards as well and did as recently as Texas.

Should Mashack be playing more than he has been? Yes, especially against guard heavy or athletic guard teams. Does Vescovi deserve to play a bit more than Mashack? Probably, for seniority, spacing, and to have less fouls overall.

I see it as somewhat similar to Aidoo and Awaka where both should be a starter but they have different strengths and matchups they are best with
