thought it was interesting how hard Sherrill said the decision to go to UT was, since Pitt was rolling. Sherrill kept it going after Majors. Old timer stories like cutting the audio on speakers and gamesmanship of not coming on the field until UT came on the field was great to hear. Majors could rise to the occasion. 1982 was great example...lost to Duke and Auburn...tied LSU, then beat #2 ranked Alabama.

Another thing which occurs to me about Majors is he was always able to recruit and develop all americans...Reggie, Gault, Bill Mayo, Roland James, Jimmy Colquitt, Tim McGee, Chris White, Keith Delong, Harry Galbreath, Eric Still, Antone Davis, Dale Carter, Carl Pickens. From 1982-1991, there was only one year we didn't have at least one consensus all american...12 in 10 years...even though he had some dud years early, guys like Willie Gault and Reggie helped build our trajectory...we've had 4 in last 12 years.

Sherrill last talked with Coach Majors Sunday for over an hour.

Jackie Sherrill reflects on Johnny Majors, a 'Tennessee treasure'

Must be wonderful to be able to know you were able to talk for such a time with a great friend so close to their passing. I wish I could have had that chance with a life long friend I lost as I was near a job I was working on near Greenville SC. Wish quite often I had had the chance to talk with this friend "one last time". Now I just go where he lies and "talk" of old times.
