Does anyone know why the J-Train hasn't played any, other than on special teams?

Is he in Fulmer's dog house??

Last I checked, he got in during the 'bama game and couldn't run, just like Riggs and Houston... and he ALWAYS gets the ball in Goal to go situations. He's scored a couple of TDs. Is that considered the doghouse?

To his credit.... Davis rushed for 587 yards (4.6 avg) and 10 tds in 2002.... for 565 (4.6 avg) and 8 tds in 2003.... had a 62-yard run against South Carolina in 2002 and also had a 58-yard touchdown run against Arkansas that same season.... In 2003 he had a 44-yard run for touchdown against Fresno State... also had a 42-yard run against Miss State.

However, this season he only has 17 carries for 34 yards and 2 tds. His longest rush has been 14 yards. He had 125 carries in 2002 and 124 carries in 2003.

I'll tell you this much, I would like to see someone run all out 110% of the time. I don't know if anyone else noticed how Riggs (I think) ran on that last 4th down attempt in the ND debacle? It looked like he was tip toeing to the line of scrimmage just waiting to get hit. I know both he and Houston are good and have racked up some respectable yardage numbers this season but it just seems the will is not there all the time. I don't know how many times I have noticed it this season. Is it just me? Anyone else get the same impression? I got so mad on that 4th down I was screaming at the TV. I honestly feel the first down was easily there but due to a lack of effort he was stopped short. :twocents:

we touched on this at the begining of the season especially about Houston...but how much of the problem is the O-line? in 98 off tacvkle was our signature run people knew it was coming but they couldn't stop it... we can't do that anymore

You nailed it Jr. When the line has played well, the backs have run well...

I thought Jabari should have been in there on that 4th down, myself, but then again, it's tough to bring somebody cold off the bench for such a big play.

although some backs can bounce it the outside when the middle is clogged up better than others and then some backs make thier own holes and I don't think we have one that can do either IMO

Riggs can cut well, but he doesn't have the speed to truly get to the outside.

Speaking of 4 and 1, what happened to diving over the top? Hardly ever see it in this situation. It's easier to stop at the goal line since you don't have to protect the field.

Well, look at the ypc, and tell me that he SHOULDN'T be in the dog house then? The 'bama game is exactly what I was talking about. They gave him a chance, and 4 carries for 3 yards. Both Riggs and Houston have been running better than that, even in their off weeks.

Barring a couple of 200 yard perormances in the next few weeks, I'm afraid Jabari is doomed to go down as a bust. He's been a capable backup who was good in certain spots, but he has never really lived up to the "J-Train" hype. Probably not all his fault though.

He's only got 17 carries? Jabari is one of those running backs that may not make yards on 4 or 5 carries in a row and then bust through for a big one. He's always good for at least 2 yards. Those 2 yards would have been useful on 4th-and-1 against Notre Dame.

Last season... as a backup.... he had 4 straight games averaging about 2 ypc..... then he busted out a 17 carry 113 yard performance.

17 carries in a whole season? C'mon... there must be something going on with the coaching staff that noboby knows about?

I don't think it's a conspiracy or anything. It's hard to get carries for Houston and Riggs much less for a 3rd tailback. Plus, Davis seems to be a half step slower than the other guys. I wonder if they ever considered a position change for him. Usually guys like that end up at linebacker.

Too big, he's a FB if you ask me.

I still  to him for all the great Florida games!

3rd team tailbacks usually get more than 17 carries. Some in the past were Aaron Hayden, Mose Phillips, Travis Stephens.... all got more pt than Davis is getting. The guy has rushed for over 1000 yards and has 18 tds as a backup in the last 2 seasons. He's shown power and breakaway speed (sometimes reminding me of Jamal Lewis). His biggest drawback is vision and cutting ability (where he definately does not remind me of Jamal!).... he seems to miss openings all the time and also doesn't seem to able to cut back and hit the hole when he does see it. He actually reminds me alot of William Howard.... the Vols leading rusher in the late 80's before the arrival of Reggie Cobb.
