I keep hearing players rave about his leadership and how well he had integrated himself into the team. However, his performance in the O&W game left a lot to be desired. I know that many guys on here have already anointed Bray the starter at some point. I honestly think that the rosters and jitters had more to do with Matt's play in the O&W game than ability. I fully expect his play to surprise many around the southeast. I also believe that CDD will protect him with the game plan. I doubt there will be many Sundays that Poole can get out of bed.

Alive? Hopefully so.
As the starter? I'm going with doubtful.

I would love it if he took the reins and is leader and makes good decisions. granted he didint knwo what he was doing in the O and W game...but like you said his play was piss poor. if he could start for 2 years then that would give bray time to add weight and learn the playbook.

but i just have a gut feeling that he is going to be pick city...

Simms wasn't very good at the OW game, but he was also playing against 3/4 of the starting Dline with a Oline that had never practiced together as a unit. The coaches will give him every opportunity to win the job.

Simms had better be a tough SOB.

He's going to get hammered early in the season.

I don't think he'll get yanked for his play. I think he'll go down due to injury and Bray will start a game or two.

i think he could turn out to be a steal but just somthing in my gut is saying he is going to throw more picks than TD's :(

I think he's the better QB point blank. I just hope he's ready for the beating. At least the have those padded undershirts now. I'd wear two if I were him.

The stories of his leadership and work ethic have really made me feel alot better about him. I think the O&W game was an unfair measuring stick as he had no time to even get out from under center. I think that he surprises everyone and does a pretty decent job. I agree that he won't be asked to do a whole lot other than manage the game and make calculated high % passes...and hopefully throw it away when it's not there.

I think he is going to be successful.. If they allow him to start from Day 1 i think he keeps the job all year and plays well.

Edit: I think the big surprise of the season will be how well the O-Line plays, but Simms playing well will come as a result and will get more attention.

I think Bray comes in at some point this season. Once the Oline has gotten a little experience, I see a change to Bray.

NO way the in world can a kid who throws a football like a shot put can make it an entire year.

I just hope Dooley stays with him as the starter, unless he gets hurt of course. I will give Kiff props for sticking with Crompton despite how bad he played. It seemed to pay off later in the year. The QB wants to know the coach had their back and supports them. That bodes well for their confidence.

I just have a gut feeling that he's going to be a gritty gamer for us. That we pound the rock to shorten the game and he makes the sure throws to Witten and Poole out of the backfield. I also have a gut feeling that Cooper is going to catch a lot of balls.

Well one thing we may have to get used to unfortunately if Dooley follows the Saban philosophy.... you run.... run....run...... and throw conservative pass routes. I hate to say the "S" word but if Dooley runs things like he did under his former boss we all could get very used to the phrase "game manager" when referring to our QB.... aka nothing flashy, but effective... kinda like McElroy at some place that resembles the colors of hell.

So unless Dooley is much more wide open than his former teachers..... expect Simms to stay the starter barring his own personal collapse in my opinion.

I can't believe you guys want the kid who throws the football with the velocity of a shuttlecock to play the entire year.

Are you the same people who are still upset that talkies ruined hollywood?

I'm still suspicious of the forward pass.......

Witten is still eligible for one season?:ermm:

Pulling a Deon Sanders and playing for us on Saturdays and Dallas on Sundays.

Aw sheeeit, Witten's back?! Damn, Dooley wasn't playin around. He's even getting TE's from 9 years ago/

Did anyone hear about Simms giving up early on practice yesterday? That doesn't fit the mold of the "leader" we have been hearing about. That coupled with his stint at UofL, and I just don't understand why he gets the nod over Bray. The O&W game didn't just show Bray's superior ability but his leadership skills. Performance is what matters, and so far Bray is in the lead IMO. With that said, Coach Dooley knows more than me, and I will support whoever he chooses. GBO!!!

In short, Dooley is smart enough to play Simms and let him get destroyed the first half of the season and switch to Bray on the back half and let Bray get us to 6-6.
