Most on here know that I used to be very heavily into following recruiting 24/7/365, but now I just focus on it from September till NSD.

Most of you don't want to hear this, but anything that a recruit says right now is strictly to keep the reporters and fans happy, and to generate buzz for themselves. I've seen people hang on every word here that a recruit says, and people want to read into it everything and anything positive or negative for UT.

You guys who do this, and just setting yourselves up for disappointment and frustration, but you won't temper your expectations. You also don't understand how UT historically recruits. They always start slow, and finish strong from November to NSD.

Some people should do themselves a favor and step out of following recruiting for a few months, because the Evaluation period and Summer camps are going to change the landscape of the recruiting boards for the fall.

That being said, they have done a good job this spring bringing in talent, and getting positive feedback from that talent. Just keep in mind though, that you can't look at what is said by this recruit and that recruit about schools and who are their favorites. All that matters is where they sign to play ball, and that will tell you who they told the truth to and what was fluff for the reporters and fans.

It's about to be summer, so get out there and enjoy yourselves, because worrying about what these kids are going to do on a daily basis isn't going to influence their decisions at all. Enjoy the process, don't try to make yourselves a part of it.

+1,000,000 some people get so caught up in every last word a recruit say's they almost feel like they've been played or lead on by how upset they get when they don't come to UT.

Good post, Eric. One other point I would make is that Hubbs has said on multiple occasions that because of the shaky ground that CDD is on right now, there will probably be a number of recruits who will wait to see what kind of success we have on the field this year before committing.

Regardless of whether or not people want to believe that CDD is on the hot seat, the fact remains that if we have another sub-par year, there are no guarantees heading into 2013 - and recruits won't be ignorant of that fact.

I'm sure there will be plenty of negatiave recruiting and pointing to the lack of stability over the past few years (wholesale coaching changes, etc.) and the lackluster W/L record as primary reasons not to commit to the Vols.

If CDD can right the ship this season, I think we'll end up with another solid class. Like you said, I definitely ain't worrying myself with it right now.

GBO!!

If CDD can't land commits from at least 20 4/5 star recruits before July 4, it shows he can't recruit at TN.

3 stars can't win in the SEC.

win 9 or 10 games, show that we are on the right track, and we won't have to worry. have a 6 or 7 win season, and then we have big worries.

Well said. I have never understood why people put so much thought and worry into following recruiting this early on. Fans have fed this crazy recruiting machine that has yielded a generation of self-serving, over-exposed, spoiled rotten recruits. I think back to Jimmy Clausen showing up in a stretch Hummer to his public commitment. FANS are the reason 17 year old kids think they have earned some right to act like prima donnas before ever lacing them up in a real game.

I wish recruiting was still done behind the scenes and most fans heard nothing about it till February. Don't get me wrong. I try to follow recruiting so I have some idea what people are talking about...I just wish that I didn't. Sometimes I feel like I have to worry about it because all the other fans do as well. It's unhealthy for all.

I know enough about recruiting that when a kid says he's 99.9% Vols a week before NSD that he might as well be 0% Vols. Yet I was pummeled on here for questioning Santos' committment. Nothing should be taken seriously until the ink is dry on the LOI for each recruit.

Good post. With as bad as we have been, I would think that Tennessee will gain most commits halfway into the season and on. People probably want to see if we can win some big games this year.

You mean that "Santos" could change his mind before NSD? You mean that just because Da Rick is with UGA, he can change his committment a day or two prior to NSD? You mean that just because Nu Keese is committed to Florida, doesn't mean that he can't change his committment before NSD?

That has been my thoughts all along.
Just imagine if we had won those two referee games in 2010 and ended with a record of 8 - 5, to include the bowl win.
Just imagine that we had minimum injuries last season and we beat Kentucky, USC and UGA. Our record would have been 8 - 4 and then we go to a bowl game.
We are very, very close to making that break through.
We just need a couple of good breaks to go our way and those close loses will be wins.
A good season on the field will translate to a good recruiting class. This time we won't be able to sell "immediate playing time" We will recruit to add depth.

If you follow recruiting, I think it's a good time to familiarize yourself with some of our targets. However, if you look at the perceived targets right now compared to our real targets in November through February, you will see a lot of different names.
