Not that he was horrible. He was alot better than Majors as far as win %. But, the meltdowns over hype would be matched on VN to all Vol HC's sans Naeyland. And no way Majors gets 16 seasons in today's football circus. It's odd how he is viewed as so legendary when his record is highly mediocre. He's #6 all-time among coaches with 5 or more seasons.I did cope with Battle.
If what is being thrown out that he does not like conflict with changes, then he is not the guy for the job. It’s time Heupel get his act together, realize the opportunity and resources at hand, embrace the tradition, and get the job done.
Or be gone!
He’s paid VERY well for his teams to show up and give their all.
Yep. And at the time I was very disappointed in the firing. didn't get it. Especially, considering the 4 coaches that followed, excluding interims. All for Fulmers final 4 seasons of 5-6, 9-4, 10-4, 5-7. Those were the only two seasons he ever had under 8 wins. Almost like PSU said "remember what UT did to Fulmer with his record....Hold our beer."Fulmer spoiled us.
It’s fair to point out that Heupel is benefiting from playing 12 regular season games. The twelfth being an auto win in the non-conference. Fulmer is the only other coach that got to play 12 regular season games and that was only in 5 of his 16 seasons.
I already figured out that comparison and averaging what Hype plays per season, PF would have averaged 9.5 wins per season. If Fulmer had played the same amount of games, most likely he would have averaged
something around 9.2 or 9.3 and he was basically fired.
It's not the averages that count, it's the progression or regression and the outlook that matters.
To be fair, a couple of those coaches didn’t have 12 games in which to win eight.Does anyone actually know the long tradition of UT football ??!!
We've never had one single coach, not even Neyland himself, that has ever, ever averaged 9 wins or more over their tenure. Not one.
When it comes to average wins per season:
Fulmer - 8.88
CJH - 8.83
Bill Battle - 8.43
Neyland - 8.24
Those are the only 4 UT coaches EVER to clear an 8 game average wins per season over the course of their UT HC career.
Lighten up all you Nancies. Your current coach is #2 all-time thus far by the one SINGLE METRIC any of you care about.
He needs to resolve that. Leaders must know how to effectively resolve conflict and change. If what is being thrown out that he does not like conflict with changes, then he is not the guy for the job.
I say that all the time but some mathematically challenged folks on here might not be able to contemplate exactly. How much money that is so here is a visual. 10 million =10000000. Think about it if you made 500k A year and I doubt many on here do it would take you 20 years of working yo make what hype makes a year that’s a hell of a lot of support IMHOWhat type of support are you talking about? Should we email him and encourage him to do his job? He gets about $10 mil/yr. That should be support enough.
First, General Neyland won 5 SEC Titles and 5 National Championships. Second, in Neyland’s era they only played 10 games a season, so you might want to mention that; otherwise, you come across as disingenuous…Neyland’s overall winning percentage was 82.9% for all his games…including bowl games.Does anyone actually know the long tradition of UT football ??!!

That all said, it comes down to this…are you OK with losing every game of the season we play that’s against a team with a pulse? Every SEC team we played at home beat us…except for Arky…and that wasn’t total domination by us by any means! Are you OK with beating bowling green, but never even being considered for the SEC title? I’m not! Heup is better than the previous 3 coaches but we made him a millionaire because of our fine university and our dollars…we expect more from our investment that mediocrity or being a good pal with his position coaches, smh! Heck someone actually posted on here that it’s ok bc we are a baseball school now! What? Are we Vandy now? Come on fellas it’s called accountability! If you are not earning your paycheck then either work a little smarter and harder, or get out of the way so that someone else, like the General, can! That is all! GBO!
Well, I was happy he was gone at the time. Two five win seasons in four years is pretty bad for a program with our tradition. I don’t think winning a title ten years previously should have bought him unlimited time to right the ship.Yep. And at the time I was very disappointed in the firing. didn't get it. Take it for what it's worth (and I don't doubt it) but Pavia said Vandy had more NIL money available than UT.Can't play the depleted roster and NCAA sanctions card when you get your tail whipped by vanderbilt....a school with a coach paid less than half as much, recruiting classes that don't compare and school resources that aren't in the same class.
He needs to drop 40+ for sure, that would help tremendously with so many things. Fat people have won before, but it’s not common.I will but he's gotta meet me every morning to run laps around Neyland to get in shape.
I mean no fat sloppy coach has EVER won anything. Fact. Science. Don't even look it up because it's true.
