Lady Vols hoops coach Holly Warlick said Baylor won't play UT now that Brittney Griner is gone. Maybe a joke. Maybe not.

I'm not sure, but I could easily see it happening.

I could easily see this being true. Without Griner, they won't be nearly as good they've been the last few years. Let me guess, they also don't want to play UCONN, ND, Stanford anymore either.

She said this at the Big Orange Caravan in Chattanooga tonight. I dont believe its a joke.

The very first question from the audience was if we will resume playing UCONN. She didnt really provide a definite answer. She then explained that they were having a hard time filling up the schedule because teams were refusing to play them. Baylor was the only school she mentioned specifically. She thought it was amusing that we got 4 years of Griner but now they dont want to continue the matchup.

I think other teams should be scared. A lot of top players graduated this past year around the country. We lost 2 good ones but we have 3 great players coming in. The current players should improve since it will be year 2 under Holly. I am very optimistic about the team.

Look we are a top program but not where we once were by comparison. The rest of the country has gotten a lot better including our own conference. Teams and coaches are not losing sleep over playing us. Not a knock on Holly this started under Pat. No ones fault but the result of greater parity and title 9 influence over a long time.

We may not be where we once were but we're still Tennessee and we'll always be one of the top programs in the country. Baylor, on the other hand, goes back to being the Baylor they were before Griner showed up.

How many of us felt that way about football? The always will be mentality is what sinks great programs. I also bet if this site existed prior to UCOnS rise people would say the same thing then.

Nope, not a joke. I work in the arena and walked by Coach Lockwood several weeks ago and he was on his cell with a school trying to book a game, I heard him say that Baylor had cancelled. I have no idea what school he was talking to and wasn't about to ask. This was right as March Madness was getting underway so they've known for a while that Baylor was backing out. Holly and her coaching staff did an excellent job this year and with the returning players and the new ones coming in the dynasty may well be on it's way back.

If Baylor was calling this off it would come from.Baylors PR department first and not us. It is called.damage controll and if you need an example see.UT UNC football. That annoncement came from UT not UNC.

If Baylor now becomes ordinary, then they will be just like UT, so they /should/ play us. After that embarrassing choke job against Louisville, the Vol coaches shouldn't be complaining about ANYBODY.

It would have been a home game for us this year and we would have pounded them. I'm sure they are ready to quit.

No...they cancelled on lady vols for next year's game.
That's great. Now there's room to put uconn back on the schedule so that our new recruits can pound them to dust! All uconn gets next year is Soniah Chong. I can't believe Parade Magazine picked Chong over Russell for Player of the Year. Would be nice to be able to show them what a mistake that was.

Has UT Womens Bball ever been in the crapper? They've been CONSISTENTLY good/great and i don't see that changing. I can say with 100% confidence that the Lady Vols absolutely WILL NOT go through what the football team has.

No, the women's BB team will not become awful--but the program has definitely fallen. Perhaps you missed the team's embarrassing choke-job against Louisville? We've got 8 national titles, we had a good, experienced team--and with a trip to the Final Four on the line--which would have been our first in FIVE years--the team completely panicked and stunk up the joint against a team that had NEVER been to the Final Four? Embarrassing. So UT has some problems--starting with mental toughness and confidence.

Guess that depends on your definition of "crapper". Top twenty is pretty good.

I believe next year will be a defining moment for the program. Over the past 5 years, from a ranking standpoint, the team has had the players necessary for a run at the Final Four, but has come up short. Next year, we'll have a loaded squad including the #1 recruit. For the health of the program, they must perform, or a serious downturn could occur. Another year of no final 4 or NC and recruits may start thinking the LVs might no longer have what it takes. Six years with top talent that does well in the WNBA but not at Tennessee could change the recruiting dynamics. There will be a lot of pressure on the kids next year. They are capable of doing it, but will they?
