It's pretty bad when more Tennessee Fans show up to watch the Vanderbilt vs USF game than there were Vandy fans 3 miles from their own campus....they can't even show up to watch their team in their hometown

I think Vandy fans knew the they were going to be around the Orange Swarm if they showed up!

Will probably be the same way for the bowl game as well...

dude even when vandy plays at home when tennessee vols come to nashville the orange still out numbers the stadium, just the state of tennessee loves vols instead of vandy, including the city of nashville.and only fans that vandy has in the state of tennessee is the ones that actually go to that college or if they went to that college and got there education and degree there.

But when they have home games, they do normally pack their own gym out....they do have fans, they just are not loyal

I think that I'm speaking for the vast majority of Vanderbilt alums and fans when I make this statement. We go to Vanderbilt for the education and little else. I grew up a UT fan and bled orange throughout my 4 years at Vanderbilt. There is nothing about Vanderbilt (except education) that makes us proud of our alma mater (it's pretty sad that I know UT's alma mater and only part of Vandy's). Hell, there's an entire generation of Vandy fans/alums who have have never seen Vandy have a winning record...which is likely to continue this year. I remember going to games with my dad growing up and the place was packed. BUT, that was 20+ years ago when people thought they had a chance of going to a bowl game or at least being competitive. The point being is that apathy has become part of Vanderbilt's culture and it's only going to change if they can start winning and going to bowl games in football on a (somewhat) consistent basis. Until then, you'll continue to see the visiting team continue to fill 50% of Dudley Field and UT fans fill 75% of it.

everything I just said was about football, but as at every school, the attitude and excitement about football filters down to basketball and other sports

Ever think they could be studying????:eek:hmy:

What how to support your athletic teams 101.
They had to drive 1.3 miles to watch the game.
It was so quiet in there it could have passed for a library.
I've been to funerals that were more exciting.:whistling:

Slide on out trolly, Later:thumbsup:

Vandy has only sold 7000 bowl tickets out of their 13000 ticket allotment.

The Music City Bowl officials said many Vandy fans are not coming due to the extensive travel....

You are 100% right. Middle Tennesse is Vol country. "Vandy country" is only West End Ave.

Still a lame excuse. If I had chosen to go to Vandy I'd be painted black and gold for all of the games but one. Heck, I could've made myself excited about Ivy League football!

Excuse implies that there is something wrong with not being a fanatical supporter of one of the worst programs in major college sports.

While I disagree with volinathens that there is nothing good about Vandy that is not academic, Commodore football certainly is not the shining star of success in the Vanderbilt logo. After 5 or 6 decades of lousiness, fans seem to get a little less excited, students get a little less painted, and universities do things like abolish their athletic department. I don't have an issue with that; in fact, it is the way it is supposed to be. I would like to think that Vanderbilt students are smarter than to place too much emphasis on a football team that has had so little success in their lifetimes (or that of their parents,) and they are.

Why did the Vandy fan cross the road?

To get to the bowl game they waited thirty years for. :birgits_giggle:

You must be talking BB because Vandy FB was horrible 20 years ago and they weren't competitive or going to bowl games.
