Let's look back just a few years ago. Southern Cal is in the tank. A mere shell of what they use to be in the 70's and 80's. Then along comes Pete Carroll. Back on top of the college football world.
Example number 2: Oklahoma, not too long ago, they stunk it up. Enter Mr. Bobby Stoops. I hate to say it but, coaching makes a difference.
Their are more out there, good examples of programs with newer coaching and fresh blood.

And now where is Stoops? He is without a true QB w/ the ability to stretch the field and the running game has suffered. Now OU is 2-3 and unranked. Feel similar?

True, but Stoops will never have a Eight year drought w/o winning a conference championship. That is a guarantee.

Maybe, but he will have a losing record this season. I know, as a UT fan, I couldn't suffer through another one of those ever. Do you trade a losing season for a conf. champ in 3 years? I don't.

If I see constant improvement after a bad year, and have a shot at an NC every three years like OK has, then I trade it for this underachieving crap any day.

I agree with you..Coaching is the problem..Time to cut our loss..
Start with some of the coaches and if it doesn't get better, then lets start over from the top..

Thanks for the replies folks. I am just really soul searching for some answers. I think that this forum is a great place to get ideas on our program. It hurts when this happens to something you love and want to see do good. I'm not mad anymore, I'm just looking for advice from other hardcore fans like me. Go Vols.

im getting tired of hearing about the coaching staff problems. we all know the problem is with the coaching staff. fact of the matter, phil was handed a great team and a familiar coaching staff that was bound for a great year.

tennessee will not get rid of phil. phil will not get rid of randy sanders. randy will continue to hate the trooper. my problem is with the special teams and the kicking game. and how bout our penalty problems? since when has UT become the team that gets more penalties than the other team? where is the line em up and smash it at them?

we just dont have a great sense of fundimentals. poor tackling with a lack of 2nd effort. Mahelona, Harrellson, Simon are the only things holding us up. i guess add wade to the list.

section you are right on the coaching is terrible i agree with what lexvol said oklahoma will be back on top. this is the sec you play to win the sec which we haven't done since 98. we have fallen into the same trend as ohio state when they had john cooper. heck of a recruiter sorry coach. after 11 years and no outright big 10 title they fired him. since then they have won anational championship. this coaching staff is in denile there has to be a shake up to get the team on top again or we never will be.

Where will the 3 more losses it will take to give OU a losing season occur?

I agree with you.

Oklahoma has exactly the same problem we have now.
People dont respect their passing game, the defense lines up in a tight man to man defense and the rest of the defense is geared up to stop Adrian Peterson and their running game.
They are getting the same results we are.

When a defense does that you got no choice but to try and beat them with the passing game. Call all the running plays you want your not going to be successful. Stoops has the same problem and no one questions his coaching ability.

Our whole problem is the passing game and the play of our QB's and WR's. When a defense is play you in a tight man to man defense against 3 WR's and you cannot hit your wr's or they cannot get separation or catch the ball, then their are major problems there. Clausen is a little banged up right now, and he is not a very good QB when he is. Our WR's have lots of ability, but until they stop dropping passes or are able to separate from the defenders, it doesnt matter what passing play we call we are not going to be successful.

Would happen if A&M and OSU weren't so lousy, which they are. Big 12 just flat out stinks this year. Oklahoma isn't very good, but they'd play us to the wire if not win.
