Kiffin has just finished year 3 at UT. Outback Bowl preparations are underway. He has a .700 winning pctg, showing gradual improvement in both years 2 and 3, with a chance at a 10-win season with a W over Michigan.

However, he is 0-3 vs. Fla and Bama, and 1-2 vs. UGA. Finished 3rd in the East each year. Gap b/t Fla and Bama continues to look wide going forward.

What say you? Where is this program, and where are YOU as a UT fan in this scenario?

0-3 vs Bama and FLA can present in lots of ways. Did we compete against them? We haven't looked in the same league as those guys lately.

Competed in 1 of 3 against each. The other 2 were both double-digit losses, including the most recent in Tuscaloosa in '11.

Also, Bama has won 2 SEC titles and a national title, and Fla has won the other SEC title during this span.

Were tennessee not vandy. In that scenario, expect a lot of pissed off people. We expect to compete for championships here, not close calls. The last coach got fired for close calls.

I'd say thanks, Lane. I hope you enjoyed your time at UT, and good luck on your next job.

There is no way Kiffin would last 4 years here if he had that record against our rival opponents.

But you were all right with 29-21, 0-4 against Florida, 1-3 against Bama, 2-2 against UGA, and two seasons without a bowl?
It doesn't matter if he was alright with it. The Powers That Be were not alright with it. That's why Fulmer is unemployed. The PTB won't be alright with it if Kiffin turns into Fulmer Lite.

Kiffin would probably be the first to admit. He was hired to return Tennessee to 1998, not 2005.

First, some questions....
How many wins would we have this last year with solid quarterback play? What about with stellar play?
If we could have mounted a running game at the beginning of the season, where would we be? Did the protection affect the quarterbacks or were we not able to run because of no passing threat?

What happened to our passing game when Coach Cutcliffe left? When he returned?

Where did our discipline and composure on the field go?

We have talent but we all want to see even better recruits coming to Knoxville...

so if Coach Kiffin is the recruiter that we think he can be...and if the competition for starts jumpstarts the fire in our guys...and if our new coaching staff can focus that fire, coach our guys up and BE WILLING TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS....

I could see a more prominent bowl in that timeframe and competing for the SEC...a new attitude can do wonders, I mean who thought Alabama could pull that off??? Remember, our cupboards aren't bare.

We all want UT back in national picture! Go Vols!

1) I say we are moving in right direction
2) Program is on the rise
3) As a fan I would expect us to be in the SCECG within the next 2 years or at least have a couple wins over Bama/Fla.

That would be disappointing. That would represent little progress in my mind.

No way I'm happy with an Outback appearance at the end of a third season no matter if we've beat Bama and FL or not. Outback by the end of year 2 would be fine. By the end of year 3, we should be competing for a BCS bowl and landing in the Citrus if we miss out on a BCS bowl in order for me to be happy. I think there's a good chance this will happen as well.

Phil got away with that for a few years because of his past success at UT. Lane Kiffin doesn't have a national championship ring here.

He can lose by any margin to those three teams next year and I'll give him a free pass. By year three, we'd better be on their level and winning our share. Don't expect him to win them all, but we should be able to fight them to a draw.

i agree 100%. he will definitely feel the pressure if he hasn't righted the ship by year 3.

The last coach did not have close calls. It was embarrasing.

A truly realistic view... Honestly, it is better than what I expect (with the win percentage) so I would be happy. In fact, he would win me over. It its going in the right direction, I'm along for the ride.

First off, Fulmer didn't get fired for losing close calls, he got fired for consistently getting blown out by his top rivals. Secondly, with the team we have now, and next years schedule, there is no reason we should fail to make a bowl game next season. I don't have any 10 win season built up in my head or anything, but SOME bowl, no matter crappy it may be should pretty much be a given next year.

All Aboard,
We have another convert.
Now If we can just get 5150 by the year 2023 we will have a full boat.:good!:
