It's Bad When...

are you saying Fulmer = Bush? :eek:lol:

In 2005 I heard some rumors that a graceful bow out was still a possible solution. Now, I am afraid that he actually believes all the perfect storm crap. He has isolated himself from the critics, and still has enough "yes" men around him to reinforce his thinking.

I would imagine the next step will be dissent with Cut or Chavis when he tries to throw them under the bus. This is going to get ugly, but I think it will end this year.

I know the feeling.

My next door neighbor is a Kentucky Wildcats fan. After their big win over Louisville Saturday night (which we watched together), he was not jumping up and down and yelling in my face about it.

Instead, we talked a while about the grief Cats fans went through with Tubby Smith as their basketball coach. Basically saying he feels my pain.

Man, it's bad when UK fans are telling you to keep your chin up.:realmad:

Most of you know that my best friend is a UF alum. I live in Houston and he lives in Nashville. After the drubbing at the hands of a bunch of freshman and sophmores, I fully expected a barrage of taunting e-mails and phone calls. What I got was far, far worse. One phone call. One call in which he basically apologized for how inept our team is. That's what we've been reduced to, a victory over us is no longer the subject of gloating, but we are now to be pitied. In years past we ripped each other backwards and forwards, up and down. Now I can tell he was embarrassed for me. Thank you Phil Fulmer.

I have waited a few days to really weigh in on what happened Saturday and as it turns out, I just dont have the energy. It was what it was....one team a national title contender now and for years to come.....the other a program in decline.

This reminds me of a quote I seem to recall hearing from a Miami player when asked about the rivalry between Miami and Florida State.... and he said something like, "What rivalry? You have to win every once in a while for it to be a rivalry."

Whoa.

I have (non-UT fan) friends around the country who normally text me almost constantly when UT's playing on national TV. I must have received 40 messages during the UT-UF game last year.

This year, the phone was silent. Not one message. You're right -- we're pitied.

the thing that gets me is the utter irrelavence this loss seems to have resonated nationally. i've perused some websites this week and other than a couple of shots on CFN/Scout.com, the reaction hasn't warranted any real response from the national media regarding CPF's "hot seat" status.

which says one of two things to me: either he's simply not any any danger or it really is that irrelevant to the national scene. I know this, it's a lot more irrelevant than the ND or Mich coaching situation, which i guess is to be expected....but i did find it interesting there weren't really any talking heads calling out CPF.

and that's just from what i've seen/read....if it is out there, i just haven't seen it.

have we fallen so far from the CFB spotlight that we dont merit the national media interest? I think that answer has to be yes.

well, it's not so much that we've fallen out of national interest because of what we do on the feild, hell, it's been that way for a few years now.

i dunno, i realize that over the past few days, i've just been really pissed off and have been very vocal, even more than normal :), about the current state of our program.

and it also occurs to me that at this time, all that is being done now is rehashing issues that have been discussed over and over again.

the reality is CPF isn't going anywhere, like it or not.

im just finally tired of being sick and tired......and this is the only place i have to really vent.

judging by all the new threads from people i've never heard of, that pop up every ten minutes, i think i'm not alone in that category.

Jake, no one can ever accuse you of not being observant. I noticed that myself...all these new guys out of nowhere and all saying the same thing. I kinda of feel like my work here is done.

our team is not worth our opponent's emotional investment

That is the truth. Back in 1999 Arkansas fans tore their goal posts down when they beat us and in 2000 LSU and Georgia fans also tore their goal posts down after beating us while Georgia fans tore up the hedges as well.....My guess is that nobody will ever again tear their goal posts down after a win over Tennessee - that is what Fulmer and his staff have done to our storied program...A win over Tennessee is just not a big deal anymore for anybody.....Well, except maybe Kentucky.

The problem is that this is like Kremlinology used to be, back when Western political analysts tried to figure out what was going on in Soviet politics based on who was sitting next to whom at parades, etc. We can fill pages full of invective, but none of us really has any idea what it will take to force a coaching change.

Fulmer will be forced out whenever enough pressure is brought to bear on Hamilton by the big boosters. But I don't think anyone on this board has any insight into what their breaking point is. Five losses? Six losses? Beaten by both Vanderbilt and Kentucky? None of us knows what it will take.

well, thanks.

and like i've said before, it wasn't anyone on here that "changed my mind", and for those of you that have been on here for a while hopefully know that this isn't a "new" train of thought for me. i've always thought, despite some of your rants, you, lex, hat(despite some of his rants), hillbilly(despite some of his rants), VIA and some others have had well informed opinions on the matter, even if at the time, i didn't agree with everything that was posted. same goes for Beef, UTIE95, UTfantilidie etc...who kept up their end of the debate with as much vigor as the others.

i've had reservations about CPF for about 4-5 years now, i guess if you were putting me in a category compared to those two groups, i fell square in the middle. I knew it wasn't as rosy as some thought it was or could be, and i didn't think it was dreadful as some others thought. for me it was really 'wait and see'.

but it never got to the point where it is now. i no longer think he can get us back. My reservations have been validated. up until this point, i was willing to see what he can do. i have my answer now. where i may have in the past said a change "may" be in order we'll see, i now "know" it's in order.....

anyway, like i said, as was probably expected, a loss like this brings out the worst in most all of us, and i'm not excluded from that.

i will however, refrain from the fat jokes and stuff....or the sideline demeanor etc....at this point if that's what you are basing your opinion of him on, then you REALLY aren't paying attention to what he's PRODUCING on the feild. i still have a lot of respect for Phil Fulmer the person.

i think i'm done with this topic now........:whistling:

now, hide and watch, we'll finish 10-2 and wonder "what the hell?" the rest of the season and off season......:eek:lol:

Nice post. I've been on Fulmers case pretty hard. And I'm sorry to say that I still am.

You can make changes without throwing someone under the bus. Chavis needs to go. cut as well. Make Trooper OC or DC, he can do both. Bring in new blood for the other. Being the head coach means you have to make touch decisions sometimes. One of Fulmer's biggest faults is that he is too loyal. Cleaning house of all current staff except for Trooper is Fulmer's only chance at really turning things around. Do it at the end of the season and bring in new blood. How many people really thought it was going to be a national search for OC, as Fulmer said, in 2005? none of us.

Fulmer is afraid of major change.

If I were CPF I would be afraid of change at this point as well. He will not be able to fire Cut or Chavis because then he would be admitting he made a bad hire, and has been dead wrong about Chavis' ability to coach defense.

The term is congnitive disonance. It means that there is so much to unlearn that his brain cannot handle it.

That would be me......what do you say after your good friend gets ripped by his rival that no one saw coming and know how much he loves his program. All in all we are both big SEC fans and have respect for one another which makes this conference great. :toast:

In the past I have referenced my good friend and gator fan. Several people on here posted things that made it sound like my gator buddy was fictional. Well, that's him above and I can assure you he's real and in my ear very, very, very, often. He's a really good guy except for the gator thing.

i can relate, you ought to be down here and live among the enemy....the new empire.....they will embarass us for years to come and oh, by the way, Tennessee is no longer considered "one fo the big three to the gator's coaching staff any longer." Next year, the streak will only continue and be even worse at home....get used to looking up my friends.......unless,

CPF bows out. Hamilton had the b_l_s to right the ship with our baseball program, let's hope he has enough left.
