It's a RIP OFF!

Gas prices - that is! When I left for work this morning around 7 a.m. there is a Shell station that I pass every day. The price this morning was $2.69. When I came home around 5:40 pm it was $2.79. We went to dinner tonight and afterwards I came back by the same station and they were $2.85. That's $.16 since this morning. Talk about a rip off! I'll be willing to bet that by the end of the year the oil companies profit will be in the range of $5-$10 billion.

Has anyone seen $.10 or more raise in gas prices in 24-48 hours?

Don't know if it will do any good to write our senators, congressman or President of the United States. They probably don't care since they get chauffered around part of the time or drive government vehicles.
If so, then who do we let our frustrations out to.
I don't think we should be paying more than $2.50 max and maybe even less than that. Most of the oil companies are overseas and all these sheiks and oil barrens are making money "hand over fist." I suppose some of you have seen the picture of one of the people who owns a home in the middle east that looks like a large hotel. Well, that people is his home/castle.

i work at a truckstop (but not for the truckstop mind you) and it went up .19 cents today.

if i would have know that, i would have filled up before work instead of after work.

Supposedly the majority (or so I thought) of the taxes on gas went to highways. Maybe I'm wrong, because here in Virginia (northern VA and near Norfolk) they are having to increase some of the taxes to do the rail/transportation program. One area, they are increasing the tolls almost double in the next 5 years.
Seems to me there are 3 portions of Virginia: northern VA(where 25% of the state's population is), the tidewater area (Norfolk, Portsmouth, Williamsburg and Newport News) and the rest of the state (mainly Richmond-where all the money is pigeon-holed).

I don't think the taxes should be as high. I'd be willing to bet at least $.25-$.30 of every dollar on gas is tax.

Pretty much. It made the local (Nashville) news. The old lady was just so happy that she'd be able to pay for her daughter's wedding now.

Didn't Al Gore/Bill Clinton open up our reserves so that prices would drop shortly before the Bush-Gore voting? I remember hearing something about that. I'm not sure if it's true, though.

The Federal tax is 18.4 cents per gallon on top of whatever tax your state levies.

Not sure if they did or not, but it really wouldn't be all that big a deal since opening up reserves would have a negligible impact on gas prices anyway.
